Question:
That is some reply and trying to digest. I have a tow hitch on the Audi standard with flat connector to a 7 pin round one. The wires for the brake controller are there but not attached. I thought there may exist a harness already running through the Audi from factory as even if no tow package installed normally they have the wires anyway but where. Meaning your brake controller can be plugged near the instrument panel if able to locate the connector for this and hoped you would know locations front and rear for this. As for which brake controller which do you recommend for a 26 foot Airstream using the Audi 3.6 engine gas not diesel. Many thanks for such a comprehensive reply.

If your 2009 Audi Q7 does not have a factory trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle then you will need to install both the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit part # 119250KIT and the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 in order for a brake controller to work.
Trailer brake controllers are universal and can be adapted to fit any vehicle with the correct wiring harness. The correct wiring harness you will need to install the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller part # C24VV on your 2009 Audi Q7 is the Universal Wiring Adapter for Curt Trailer Brake Controllers part # C51515.
All Class II and above trailer hitch receivers can be adapted for sway control however only some are designed to be used with a weight distribution system. We have two trailer hitch receivers designed to fit your vehicle: the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13220 and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75950. None of which are rated for use with a weight distribution system.
In order to combat trailer sway while towing your Airstream trailer, I recommend using the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit part # 83660. You will also want to use the Sway Control Tab part # 3442 which will need to be welded onto your ball mount by a professional welder. If your Airstream trailer is more than 26' long, you will need two sway control bars and 2 sway control weld on brackets. As long as your trailer's frame rails are at least 3" tall then this option will work well for you.
I have attached several review and installion videos on the following products for you.
