Today, we're going to review part number BWRVB3600. This is the replacement base for the B and W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch for the Ram factory 5th-wheel towing prep package. Now, this replacement base is used with the B and W Companion Fifth Wheel hitch head, which we also sell separately. Its part number BWRVC3006. These two parts combined will make a complete fifth wheel hitch which we also sell separately which is the BWRVK3600. This video review is just going to be on this replacement base. This base uses these adjustable pivot arms. It comes with these two pivot arms, and these pivot arms will let you mount that hitch head that fits your application.
Basically, when you install these pivot arms, you can see they have; one side has a slant and the other side is straight. Basically, these pivot arms can be used in two positions, horizontally this way and also on the other side, and that will get you a total of four horizontal adjustments for improved cab clearance. By using these two pivot arms, it will also . If you notice, it's got two sets of holes here. There is a multitude of holes on the base. You can actually put this in three different height settings also to raise or lower your coupler height, so you can set it either at 17 inches, 18 inches, or 19 inches coupler heights.
You can find the application that best fits your vehicle and hook it up that way. Now, these pivot arms you can see at the very top, they do have the polyurethane bushings. When you do mount these arm one on each side, your hitch head would sit on this and will give a rattle-free ride. Now, install the base into your Ram. It's a very quick simple installation. Basically, these tabs right here will drop into the four receiver pucks that are built into your Ram factory underbed rails, and then you just turn the handles to lock them in place.
Basically, what you'll do to install this is unhook the clip, pull the pin out, move your handle 90 degrees, and that tab will move also. If you do that to all four with them open like that, it will drop right into the pucks that are in your Ram. Once they are all in correctly, you just turn that handle 90 degrees; moves that tab and locks it into place. Then, just take your pin, put it back through, put your clip on. It will lock that handle from moving. Basically, when you're towing, you just hook it up like that, easy installation.
When you're done, pull the pin and clip, release the handle, pull it out; easily removes from your truck and then it will give you full access to your truck bed. Since there is no mounting rails above the bed, you can use your truck for more than just towing. This part is made of a gray powder coat steel, which is corrosion resistant. It comes with all the hardware to install the pivot arms to the base. Now, few specs on it. The gross towing weight capacity is 25,000 pounds, the vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 6,250 pounds. We have towed several thousand miles using the B&W Companion hitch and absolutely love it. We would buy any other hitch.
Base fits perfectly in my new truck! Bonus is I am able to use the hitch plate from older hitch I have had for over 15 years.

Great price and fast delivery. I recently switched from a GMC 2500 crew cab long bed to a Ram 3500 crew cab long bed. Did not realize that the puck systems were different so after some research, I found out that I had to only swap out the base. I was able to use the hitch assembly saving me from buying a while new fifth wheel hitch. I was also able to track it from when it shipped til it was delivered. The package also arrived in good condition. etrailer price was lower by $100. I will be shopping for more items for the truck and fifth wheel and etrailer will be my go to.
I bought my first 5th wheel in 2007 and the only hitch I have ever used is the B&W Companion for a good reason.
This is a heavy duty base. I bought a new 2017 Ram truck and had to update to a base that would work with my new truck. I had a 2012 Ram and B&W Companion OEM fifth-wheel Turnoverball goose-neck hitch. I could still use the upper portion or Assembly Head for my previous base on this new base. This base handles 25,000 lbs. where my older base would handle 20,000 lbs. Much stronger and heavier, but then it locks into place in all four corners where my older base locked to the the turnover ball, instead, with two u-clamps. Had some difficulty installing it, but needed to read the instructions in some more detail and loosen the two bolts on the legs to get the lock pins to fall, exactly, into place and re-tighten the leg bolts, when finished. Like I said, It's heavy. Think the UPS driver told me it weighed 138 lbs. He and I had to wrestle it out of his delivery truck. Last step of installation, I was missing the "Leveling Kit", but the box came damaged from shipping and I am sure it was lost during that process. I got in touch with etrailer and to make a long story short, B&W is sending me a new one... no charge. Angela W. at etrailer was super great to work with. I call that "customer support". I will be back to etrailer for more products, in the future.

It's hard to lift, but it's awful sturdy that's a good thing when it comes to towing! ;) We'd love to see a photo of the hitch in the new truck if you feel like sending one in when the time comes. Super excited for you!
Excellent transaction! The delivery company was a pretty rough and scratched it up. etrailer was spot on with everything else.

Great - no issues
Excellent product at the best price I found. Delivered in a timely manner in good condition. This base is a beast compared to my ford compatible base. But the peace of mind of its security is worth the inconvenience of how I have to deal with its weight.
A GOOD chose. FITS THE PUCK SYSTEM IN MY RAM PERFECT.
B&W makes a Great product, my 3rd hitch. Base came in 2 days, undamaged and in perfect condition. I cut my bed mat so as not to interfere with base installation. I already had the head unit and bought a new truck so I needed a new base, I did have to loosen one corner to get it to drop in right in on my 2019 ram 3500 once in it is solid. Easy clear instructions.

After 1 year still happy with this hitch. I havent taken it out since, due to the weight
I purchased the 5th wheel base for a 2018 Ram 3500 with the puck mounts. I had a B&W goose neck mount for my previous truck so I planned on using the 5th wheel head of that hitch on the new base. I ordered the Base from etrailer on a Tuesday night (10:30 PM) and had confirmation from their shipping department that the parts shipped on Wednesday at 4:30 AM... If that wasn't impressive enough, ALL of the parts arrived by noon on Friday and without a scratch I might add. I had the entire assembly installed in less than 30 mins by myself. It fit perfectly. I double checked all of the bolts and nuts and everything was properly torqued. This base took the towing capability of my old hitch from 20k to 25k... Thanks etrailer, you guys run a Top-Notched Operation! I have another purchase in mind so Ill be browsing your site...
Had some shipping issues and you guys and gals have been great getting things resolved. Great product, but even better service from eTrailer.com. I was in a bit of a hurry, and eTrailer got my order shipped out same day and the B+W Companion base showed up and worked as advertised.
Shipping was fast. Great product. Hitch sits up higher than the reg companion. I set it on lowest setting 17". I had to raise my pin box on my fifth wheel RV 4 " and it sits perfect now.
Base was very easy to install and has worked perfectly!

Great hitch, very well built
Heavy duty hitch. Easy to put together. It is heavy fully assembled. Have not towed with it yet but I can't imagine having a problem.

One addition I have made was the purchase of a B&W hitch lifting tool. Now I simply use my engine hoist to R&R the entire hitch. The hitch plate after many years of use had some end play along its main axis bolt. I used a couple of valve spring shims to take up the slop. Good to go!!
