Today, we're going to take a look at the Demco Hijacker Autoslide capture plates for the Trailair Rota-Flex Pin Boxes. Now, these capture plates will prevent your king pin from pivoting inside your Demco Hijacker Autoslide Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, and these are required for use with the Trailair Rota-Flex pin box, but they will also work with the Trailair Air Ride pin boxes. They are a fast, easy installation. Comes with a nice set of instructions on how to install them. Basically, these brackets will replace the capture plates that come standard on your hitch, and they secure with the existing hardware. These capture plates are actually taller and longer than the factory capture plates on your hitch, which allows the auto function of the hitch to operate without a delay.

The capture plates are good, much heavier then the original ones, however, the adapters I purchased For the Kurt Hilux hitch are not good. These adapters are held on to the capture plate with set screws. When you turn these adapters flex and loosen then fall off. I didn't get 2 miles from my house before the first one fell off. This happened several time on the first time I used them. I had to weld the adapters to the capture plates to stop them from falling off. They still are not like I want them and I will have to make more modifications to get them to work like i want them to. See attached photos.

The stock guide plates will work. That being said, these help so much more! The are taller and longer. This guides and captures the kingpin better. By covering more of the king pin with these rails it allows the auto function of the hitch to operate without a delay. The delay in operation was something I experienced with the stock rails. That is what caused me to start searching for something better. Happy to have found these!

That said, like some of the other reviews that I read prior to purchasing these plates, I wonder why Demco doesn't just put these on from the factory. They are awesome and would work great with or without the flex pin box.

Purchased the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 18,000 lbs
Item # DM8550034 for our Nissan Titan XD pro4x. After reading about 5th wheel pin boxes, I call to see if the factory capture plates would work for our new Keystone Cougar Pinbox. I called, spoke with Cailee V in customer service. Cailee was not 100% sure. She got my information, called Keystone to see how the pin boxes were set up. She followed back up with me the next day and advised I needed to purchase the capture plates for the roto-flex pin box. Order and they arrived in 2 days. Fit my hitch perfectly. Great Customer Service, thank you Cailee, great hitch/mounting bracket and capture plates.

Hitch arrived in excellent condition. I was a little disappointed at how long it took to arrive, but with the pandemic going on, I understand. This is an excellent hitch. It definitely requires a second set of hands to drop it into the puck mounting system in the truck. My wife and I picked our 5th wheel up this past Saturday and brought it home to get it cleaned up for our trip. Very smooth and very quiet. Much better than our last manual sliding hitch. The only negative from me is that I was missing 2 of the pins that hold the arms in the locked position. Supposed to be 4 and we only had 2.

Truth be told, I have not used this yet, but have installed it on the hitch. While it was a little hard to take the old guides and install the new ones, I am sure these will work just fine. Both Demco and etrailer are standup companies.

everything works great , on the hitch head underneath there's a blue stopper for letting the head stop, they keep splitting and I have call Demco support on this problem and I have paid for a couple and they I sent me a couple at no charge. Have to change one about very two campground stop. Very upsetting do have to do this.If you have any questions please let me know .

Troubleshooting Demco Hijacker Autoslide Making Noise
How old is the hitch? Does your fifth wheel have a standard pin box or a cushioned pin box? Has it been lubricated? Does the locking bar automatically lock when the jaw closes? The thing that comes to mind immediately is the capture plates may not be adjusted properly. They MUST be evenly on both sides to 1/8" more than the width of the pin box.

If you want to upgrade your # DM8550024 to the 21k model you can with the Replacement Head and Base Assembly # DM6107. You already have the side plates # DM6033 so there is no reason to purchase them again with the full # DM8550038. The savings isn't huge but every bit helps. According to the owner's manual you're supposed to measure the width of your pin box, and set the capture plates 1/8" wider between the capture plates. We always recommend using a sliding hitch whenever the bed of the truck falls down to the 6' range. From there you'd just need to decide if you want a fixed slider or automatic slider, which really depends on how much you'll be needing it.
