Today we're going to take a look at the replacement head unit for the Curt A25 fifth wheel trailer hitch. This has a 25,000 weight capacity. Now this part will replace the head unit on your Curt A25 fifth wheel trailer hitch. Part number C16180. We do sell that part number separately on our website. This head unit uses the interlocking two-jaw system. Provides a nice 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact.
Gives you less rattle, more security than the slide-bar models. This also has the fully articulating torsion head for controlled coupling and a nice, stable, quiet ride. It'll self-align for easy hookup. It does use a caste yolk with poly-torsion inserts to suppress the shock loads and helps reduce any bothersome toning noise. They do have two built-in zerk fittings. You can see there's one on each jaw.
Gives you easy lubrication, just hook your grease gun to that and pump grease into it. Also offers a nice, fast one pin head removal, you can see right here. On the front, if you pull that clip out, you can pull this large pin right out. Makes it easy for one person to remove the hitch from your vehicle. Now this does also, on the side here, when you mount this to the legs, it'll offer three hitch height adjustment positions. Helps keep your fifth wheel as level as possible with your two vehicle. What's unique about this hitch, it is offers a three point indictor system. Right back here, you can see it has a color coding here to tell you if the hitch is ready to uncouple, couple, or two.
You can see right now the jaws are closed like if it was around a kingpin, so it's showing green. The green means the jaws are locked closed, it's safe to tow. Now when we go to open this, it'll show yellow, which means the jaws are ready to couple, so it's safe to back your track into couple to your trailer. And if it happens to show red, that means the jaws are locked open, it's safe to pull your truck away, but you do not want to couple when it's showing red. What's nice about this, you'll be able to see these colors, they're visible from your cab.
Basically, if it was positioned this way and I was in the cab, you can turn around and look, and by looking at the color can tell you what position those jaws are in. Has a nice lockable handle there. Pull the pin and clip out of it, it's tethered so you don't lose it. Has a nice lockable handle. The hole is large enough you could put a padlock through there if you prefer, to lock it into place. It is a very short throw single handle operation, and it will self reset to the ready to couple position after uncoupling. What I'm going to do now is just pull it out and then swing it back and you can see how the dual jaws will open up, ready to accept the kingpin. It does come with the included plastic lube plate. Just going to get that, I'll set it over here. This plastic lube plate lets your kingpin . it goes onto your kingpin, helps it glide smoothly into the hitch during hookup and it'll help protect the hitch head from any damage. This hitch head is constructed of a sturdy caste steel main body. It's the nice, durable carbide powder coat finish. A few specs on it. The application, again, is Curt A25 fifth wheel trailer hitch it goes to. The gross towing weight capacity, again, is 25,000 pounds, and the vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 6,250 pounds. I just want to swing this around now that we opened the jaws, you'll be able to see. You'll see that yellow, which we talked about, means the jaws are ready to couple. It's safe to hook up. What I'm going to show now is I happen to have an example of a kingpin that would be on your fifth wheel. Basically what happens is when this slides in, it'll push those jaws. You can see once it gets completely wrapped around there, the jaws lock, the handle locks into place, your hole's right there. Take your pin and clip and just drop the pin down. Clip it closed, and you're locked in, ready to go, as simple as that. That should do it for the review on the replacement head unit for the Curt A25 fifth wheel trailer hitch with a 25,000 pound weight capacity.
