Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For A 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL

Question:

My new 2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL does not come with the factory harness like the 2022-2024 models did. I dont want to splice into wires, so was looking at the Tekonsha ZCI but I see a previous Q indicated that it wont work properly with LED tail lights. 1 What options do you have and 2 regardless of product, where do you connect to the vehicle wires?

Hey Tim,

The ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT is compatible with LED lights and has been used as a go to for years for people who have LED trailer lights. The light function is supposed send a tiny bit of voltage from the vehicle tail lights to the converter box so it knows what signal to send out the 4-pole connector to the trailer. If your tail lights are staying on like that question you saw then the shop either spliced the wrong wires together or the converter box was bad because power shouldn't be flowing backwards.

That being said, you'd be paying more than double for just some quick splices added onto the wires so I recommend switching to the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236 instead. This kit comes with quick splices # SWC502905-1 but I typically just use a butt connector # DW05714 to ensure a secure connection that won't be able to vibrate loose while on the road. Without the factory tow package this universal harness is really the only option and it would need to be wired in the following manner:

White - ground to frame using included ring terminal and self-tapping screw

Black - run to battery using included wire, this will require routing the wire under the vehicle while avoiding any parts that move or generate heat. When you get to the battery you'll need to splice the included fuse holder to help protect your wiring.

For the rest of the wires I've attached a chart below showing where they need to go depending on the what style of wiring your Tucson has. Your Tucson should have 3-wire but it wouldn't hurt to check if you could potentially have PWM wiring, in which case the only difference is that you'd ground the brown running light wire.

If you have any more questions just let me know and I'd be happy to help.

Thanks for the info Kevin. Where do I connect the harness? There is a connector behind the driver's-side rear wheel, like the older models and the wires are wrapped in plastic spiral wrap. I'm assuming I'd have to strip that back a bit to tap into the wires. However, I've found in our OH winter-salted roads that exposed connections corrode pretty quickly. I've also seen other harness products directing the user to fish wire up through the tail lights. Additionally, I have the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Part Number: CU94FR from my 2022 Tucson, and am wondering, since I have to splice anyway, if I can just cut the plug off and splice it in. Thanks

@TimD The Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236 splices into the tail light wiring at the tail lights. You can use heat shrink butt connectors to prevent the connections from corroding. Are you sure you don't have the factory tow package since you have a connector right where it should be? If you want to email me some pictures of that connector I can take a look. If you do have the tow package connector you could then just plug in the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # CU94FR and make your installation much easier.

@KevinC Unfortunately, the 2025 SEL no longer comes with the factory T connector, only the higher trim levels (or special order tow pkg). I got this straight from Hyundai customer support. The tow pkg was not available with this off-the-lot vehicle. Dealer parts counter had no knowledge of or even a SKU for an add-on connector. I transferred my old Curt hitch to the 2025 (fortunately, all the bolt holes lined up perfectly). The 2025 connection looks like it could be separated and either OEM or aftermarket T connector inserted, but as of last month Curt customer service said they had no ETA for such a T connector. Thanks again for the info.
