How Tight Should Spindle Nut Be on Trailer Axle

Question:
I have a 16foot Corn Pro, Landscape Trailer and need to torque the axle nut. What is the correct torque pound for this trailer? Nothing online seems to list this. Thank you,

Expert Reply:
Trailer axle nuts don't have a torque rating as you don't want to run them down super tight. The trick is to tighten the nut till there's no play in the hub in and out with the wheel installed and then use the cotter pin to hold the nut in place. This allows the hub to seat properly without creating too much friction that would cause damage to the bearing/hub.
