Question:
Hi, Buying my next hitch - Curt C13264. All past hitches rust and require touch up/paint, etc. This is especially so inside the open ended tubes. Road dirt, salt, etc. collects in the tubes and rusts badly. Should/Can I cover the tube ends with a tape flapper cover to allow drainage, to help prevent this issue?? Thanks

Keeping a trailer hitch in mint condition is impossible but there are a few steps you can take to prolong the life of your Curt # C13264 trailer hitch and fight the rust that you were talking about. A hitch cover like the etrailer Rubber Hitch Cover for 2" Trailer Hitches # 22282 helps keep out debris and rust causing agents.
Rinsing off any salt that would get on it during winter months is key as well as some anti-corrosive paint that you can apply to any places where you may have a scratch like from rocks. If you cannot find anti-corrosive paint, then applying some spray paint will help resist rust and be better than nothing.
Included are video resources for these solutions.
