Is Adapter Needed To Install TriLift Scooter Lift on 2007 Dodge Caliber With a Class I Hitch
Question:
We currently have a Class I hitch on our 2007 Dodge Caliber. The TriLift scooter lift may require a 2 receiver. Is this the correct adapter?

I looked up the TriLift scooter lift and they list the lift as working on a Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch, but they limit the weight of your scooter to be less than 115 lbs.
The Hitch Adapter, part # 80303, that you have referenced, can only be used with a Class II receiver. The only hitches available for your 2007 Dodge Caliber are a Class I hitch. The #80303 hitch adapter will not work.
The problem when using a hitch adapter is that you will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. If your hitch has a 200 lb tongue weight capacity, an adapter will reduce that capacity to 100 lbs.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on trailer hitch classes. It will explain the differences in a Class I, Class II, and Class III hitch.
