Ordered a hitch for my mazda3. I already had a hitch mount bike rack I was using on another vehicle but needed an adapter to use in the new rack. Ordered the rack and adapter. Within an hour I get an email and phone call from Michelle saying I ordered an adapter that would not work with the hitch I got. She said she would correct the order and get the correct parts out immediately. Within a few days I had the hitch and correct adapter delivered to my house. Customer service like this is second to none. Can’t believe how in tune they are at going beyond what you would expect from an online company. A++++ all around. Highly recommend 717768

Perfect fit for the car. etrailer.com knows their stuff and never disappoints. They also recommend the associated pins for this converter and both worked exactly as expected. I have purchased every hitch, component, part, converter, etc. from them since about 2005 and used their site as an invaluable reference for installation. They never fail. Love this site. 672474

Over the years I have been very happy with my purchases from etrailer in general. This little adapter is another good purchase. I bought this one over the other offered because the finish is better. I believe the quality welding and smooth finish will help keep the corrosion at bay for a bit longer and it looks nicer. I appreciate etrailer.com putting forth the effort to provide good pictures for comparison and to ensure the overall dimensions are going to work. 52336

  • Is The Hidden Hitch Adapter # 80303 The Shortest 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter Available
The Hidden Hitch 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter, part # 80303, is our shortest adapter, but can only be used with a Class II receiver. If you have a Class I receiver, you will need part # HTAD. Part # 80303 will stick out about 1-1/4 inch less, than # HTAD. You can check the label on your hitch or send us the hitch number to find out if it is Class I or Class II. I am including a link to a FAQ page that will help describe the different classes of trailer hitches. Please note,...

  • Hitch Adapter Needed for a Class I Trailer Hitch
The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch, item # 80303, has a longer shank on it so that it can not be installed in a lower capacity Class I hitch. Class I hitches have a stop inside the receiver to keep higher capacity Class II accessories from being installed in them, so they are not overloaded. The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # HTAD, is designed for use in both a 1-1/4 inch Class I and Class II hitch so it may work for your application. We...

  • How Can I Use My 2 Inch Bike Rack with my 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
We offer adapters so you can use the 2 inch bike rack with the 1 1/4 inch receiver hitch. The appropriate adapter for your hitch depends on what class it is. You can use part # HTAD if your hitch is a Class I or Class II and part # 80303 will only fit Class II. Please note, using either of these adapters will reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. If you have a Class I hitch with a 200 pound tongue weight capacity, using this adapter you will only be able to put 100 pounds...

  • Compatibility of Hitch Expander and Spare Tire Carrier for 1-1/4 Inch Receiver
The MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 1-1/4" (Class II) to 2" Hitch # MT70032 or the Tow Ready # 80303 has an ability to adapt your hitch and yet will reduce the tongue weight of your hitch by 50%. With a 1-1/4 inch receiver, this weight can be as high as 350 lbs but in most cases is 200 lbs prior to that 50% reduction. That leaves you with 100lbs to carry your spare tire and its carrier like # C31006. In this case, that combination will work with the carrier weight of 31 lbs.

  • Use of Any Adapter Does Decrease the Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity by Half
You are experiencing a common dilemma. The use of any adapter does decrease the hitch tongue weight capacity by 50%. If your MKX Class II hitch offers a 350 lbs tongue weight capacity then with an adapter the bikes and rack combined cannot exceed 175 lbs. For most applications this would be sufficient but not knowing your bikes and how much they weight I cannot tell you for certain if this will work.Should you decide to go with an adapter we would recommend an anti rattle lock to secure...

  • Can A Class II Hitch be used with an Adapter to Transport a 477 Pound Motorcycle
Using the Hidden Hitch 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Adapter # 80303 would reduce the tongue weight that you hitch is currently capable of by 50 percent. This would not be recommended. For example if your existing hitch had a tongue weight capacity of up to 350 pounds, then using this adapter would reduce the tongue weight to 175 pounds. It is unlikely that the capacity of your Class II hitch, even using the correct hitch shank, would not have the capacity to support 477 pounds of tongue weight...

You are correct the hitch receivers for the 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, like # 24949, are 1-1/4 inch Class I hitch receivers. You can use an expander like # 80303. This will provide you with a 2 inch receiver on your Golf Alltrack. However, the hitch has a tongue weight of only 200 pounds and using an adapter will reduce that by 50 percent. So that means your bikes can only weigh a total of only about 50 pounds since the Thule T2 Pro # TH9034XTS is 52 pounds. Instead of using...

A Class I hitch will have a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. The other way to tell is, on a Class I hitch, there will be a small dent or punch in the receiver behind the hitch pin hole. If your hitch has this punch, it is a Class I hitch. • Can a 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter be Used on an ATV Hitch for a Winch
Physically, yes, you can use a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter, like # 80303, in your ATV receiver. But, there are a couple of things you will need to be aware of. First, you will need to check to make sure that the receiver on the ATV has at least 2 inches of space from the center of the hitch pin hole back away from the receiver opening. If it has a closed back or something in the way and the obstruction is less than 2 inches from the hitch pin hole center, this adapter will not fit. Second,...

On the Hitch Adapter, # 80303, the end that fits into the trailer hitch requires a 1/2 inch hitch pin and the receiver side needs a 5/8 hitch pin like you have said. Provided that the bike rack shank is hollow, you may be able to use Anti-Rattle Device and Lock, # S64030. For the end of the adapter that fits into the trailer hitch, I recommend # 93347. The easiest way to determine if you have a Class I or Class II OEM hitch, would be to contact a Subaru dealer or check your owners manual. For a 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch we have similar items like Brophy # HT5R which gives you the larger 2-inch receiver size as well as 5-inches of rise for better ground clearance with whatever accessory you mount in it.
