Video Transcript for Tow Ready Trailer Hitch Adapter Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the hitch adapter inch and quarter to two inch trailer hitch receiver. Part number 80303. This hidden hitch adapter is going to take any class two inch and a quarter receiver and convert it to a two inch receiver, allowing you to use any two inch accessories. Now we're using our cargo carrier with our adapter here today, but it would be great for bike racks or any other two inch accessories. Please note, however, it does cut your tongue weight in half, and is not recommended to be used for towing. From pin hole to pin hole you've got six inches, so you're getting a bit of an extension as well.

Now the pin and clips are not included. We've got a PC3, which is our five inch pin and clip, for our adapter side, and for our hitch side we've got a PC2, which is going to be our half inch pin and clip. It's a much more economical solution that having to buy two bike racks or two cargo carriers for multiple vehicles. Now it's extraordinarily easy to install. We've just got our adapter plugged into our receiver, and our accessory plugged into our adapter. That's going to complete our look at the hitch adapter inch and quarter to two inch trailer hitch receiver.

Part number 80303.

Over the years I have been very happy with my purchases from etrailer in general. This little adapter is another good purchase. I bought this one over the other offered because the finish is better. I believe the quality welding and smooth finish will help keep the corrosion at bay for a bit longer and it looks nicer. I appreciate etrailer.com putting forth the effort to provide good pictures for comparison and to ensure the overall dimensions are going to work. 52336

Do you have a question about this Hitch Adapter?

  • Carrying 2 Bikes on a Hitch Mounted Bike Rack on a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
  • You are correct the hitch receivers for the 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, like # 24949, are 1-1/4 inch Class I hitch receivers. You can use an expander like # 80303. This will provide you with a 2 inch receiver on your Golf Alltrack. However, the hitch has a tongue weight of only 200 pounds and using an adapter will reduce that by 50 percent. So that means your bikes can only weigh a total of only about 50 pounds since the Thule T2 Pro # TH9034XTS is 52 pounds. Instead of using...

  • Hitch Adapter Needed for a Class I Trailer Hitch
  • The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch, item # 80303, has a longer shank on it so that it can not be installed in a lower capacity Class I hitch. Class I hitches have a stop inside the receiver to keep higher capacity Class II accessories from being installed in them, so they are not overloaded. The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # HTAD, is designed for use in both a 1-1/4 inch Class I and Class II hitch so it may work for your application. We...

  • How to Use a Bike Rack for a 2 Inch Hitch Receiver on a 2017 Infiniti QX50 with 1-1/4 Inch Receiver
  • Currently, the only hitch available for your 2017 Infiniti QX50 is the Curt # C11510 which is a Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. Depending on how much weight you're putting on the hitch (Weight of your bike plus your bike rack) you may be able to use an expander. The Tow Ready # 80303 will adapt the 1-1/4 inch hitch to a 2 inch hitch. However, using the adapter will drop your tongue weight by 50 percent. You should know that Curt requires the use of a support strap, # 18050,...

  • Difference Between Curt and Tow Ready 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Hitch Adapters
  • Realistically there isn't much difference between the two extenders you referenced aside from price. Both are extenders that go from 1-1/4 to 2 inch and are both right at 6 inches in length. If it were me I would go with the Curt # C45785 over the Tow Ready part # 80303.

  • How Can I Use My 2 Inch Bike Rack with my 1-1/4 Inch Hitch
  • We offer adapters so you can use the 2 inch bike rack with the 1 1/4 inch receiver hitch. The appropriate adapter for your hitch depends on what class it is. You can use part # HTAD if your hitch is a Class I or Class II and part # 80303 will only fit Class II. Please note, using either of these adapters will reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. If you have a Class I hitch with a 200 pound tongue weight capacity, using this adapter you will only be able to put 100 pounds...

  • Use of Any Adapter Does Decrease the Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity by Half
  • You are experiencing a common dilemma. The use of any adapter does decrease the hitch tongue weight capacity by 50%. If your MKX Class II hitch offers a 350 lbs tongue weight capacity then with an adapter the bikes and rack combined cannot exceed 175 lbs. For most applications this would be sufficient but not knowing your bikes and how much they weight I cannot tell you for certain if this will work.Should you decide to go with an adapter we would recommend an anti rattle lock to secure...

The capacity of the hitch will be limited by the towing capacity of the vehicle, if it's less. I noticed you had looked out some hitch adapters like # 80303 and # MT70032 that would allow a hitch accessory with a 2 inch shank work in a hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. These adapters are only compatible with a Class II hitch, which has...

You can use an adapter like # 80303 if you have a Class II hitch and need a 2 inch accessory option, but it will reduce the tongue weight rating of your hitch by 50%. This adapter is not to be used for towing. There is not an towing and accessory combination for a Class I or Class II hitch receiver based on their rated max capacities.

I have included a video review of this adapter below. Please note that when using an adapter, the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch is reduced by 50 percent. If you are just using the spare tire carrier and a tire/wheel on it, you should not have to worry about that reduction.

Provided that the bike rack shank is hollow, you may be able to use Anti-Rattle Device and Lock, # S64030. For the end of the adapter that fits into the trailer hitch, I recommend # 93347. • What Trailer Hitches are Available for the 1998 Honda Odyssey
  • All of the trailer hitches for the 1998 Honda Odyssey are Class II hitches with the 1-1/4 inch receiver. A 2 inch hitch is not available. What you may be able to do is use an adapter. However, first I must warn you that the use of an adapter reduces the trailer hitch tongue weight by 50 percent. For example if your existing hitch had a tongue weight capacity of up to 350 pounds, then using this adapter would reduce the tongue weight to 175 pounds. However, the use of an expander will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. It appears that the vast majority of trailer hitches for a 2011 Toyota Camry have a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds. If you were to use an adapter like part # 80303 to allow this hitch to carry a Thule bike rack designed for 2 inch hitches you will cut the capacity of the hitch in half so this would not be a great route to go since the tongue weight capacity of this hitch is only 200...

  • Physically, yes, you can use a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter, like # 80303, in your ATV receiver. But, there are a couple of things you will need to be aware of. First, you will need to check to make sure that the receiver on the ATV has at least 2 inches of space from the center of the hitch pin hole back away from the receiver opening.
