Replacement Tire Needed for 9.5-16.5 Size Tire

Updated 09/27/2025 | Published 05/15/2018

Question:

I have a heavy equipment trailer that came with 9.5 16.5 inch tires for clearance. It is a low deck- split beam trailer. Hard to find those tires. 2,35 80R 16 are slightly taller. Would you have a recommendation for a shorter tire in a 16 to replace the 16.5 Know I will have to buy wheels.

The 235/80-16 sizes tires are the closest size that we have to your 9.5-16.5 tires. Your current tires should have a diameter of 30.6" and the 235/80-16 tires measure 30.9" in diameter. When it comes to clearance with your trailer you will actually be reducing that by only 0.15" since diameter is from one end of the tire directly across to the other side of the tire.

If this works out for you then I recommend going with the Taskmaster Provider Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2358016E which has a load range of E (3,520 lbs at 80 psi) and a max speed rating of 81 mph. If you need a wheel with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern use part # TA59VR but for an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern use part # TA99VR.

So this size tire will fit the rim?

@Vernon No, the 235/80-16 tire is only a fit for a 16" wheel. This is why I recommend to Eugene that he does with a new tire/wheel combo since we didn't have something that would fit his old wheel.
