Can an Electric Winch Hold a Suspended Load for Extended Periods of Time

Question:

Hello, I was looking for an alternative to the very costly options available from boat lift manufacturers. I have a Shoremaster 4 post vertical lift and was considering replacing the manual winch with the BDW10041. The lifting load is about 3000lbs and the winch would need to then hold that load on the brake for extended periods weeks at a time. Will the load holding brake on on the BDW10041 withstand that? Any other thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!

Winches are not designed to hold a load for extended periods of time. Once you have the load lifted into position you would need to use chains or rope to then support the load.

Bulldog Winch # BDW10041 is more than capable of hoisting a 3,000 pound load though so provided you then use another method to support the load this winch is a great option.
