The best way to avoid having to deal with issues from the TIPM on your 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 would be to install a new wiring system that bypasses it. This will ensure that the TIPM will not go out on you since the wiring won't be run through it. All of our modulite boxes come with wiring so that they are ready to be installed which makes new wiring the best route to go.
You can install the Tekonsha Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit # 119178KIT for starters which includes a modulite to protect the wiring on your Ram.
Then, for a fully functioning 7-Way, you will want to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. I have attached an installation video and some helpful articles to assist you on the install. This kit also as a 4-Pole connector that is included which makes it compatible with multiple trailers.
Since a TIPM is not cheap to replace, this wiring system would be a much better option to go with.
