Troubleshooting Lippert Landing Gear Lead Leg Not Fully Retracting
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Can you replace the Lippert landing gears part # LC146059 while the lead leg is still on the RV? Is it possible to get the gear pins out of the upper leg if the trailer is sitting on the landing leg? I believe I need to replace the gears on the lead landing gear leg as it no longer retracks up all the way, leaving it extending 2 inches. I tried disconnecting the cross bar and manually raising the leg, but it does not lift. I am assuming the gears are faulty, not the collar or the long screw in the leg. Does that sound correct to you? Is this a common problem? Thanks

It doesn't sound like the gears to me because you are able to retract all but the 2 inches, so I don't think the Lippert Components Venture Lead Leg Repair Kit for 5th Wheel RV Landing Gear # LC146059 will solve your problem. If the gears were bad, you'd be simply stuck or have slipping as you retract every full rotation. It sounds to me like the main threaded screw is stripped at the point it stops retracting. There is not a replacement for that part, so I recommend replacing the lead leg. For this, you will need the Lippert Components 31-3/4" Lead 5th Wheel RV Landing Gear Drop Leg w/Snap Pin # LC179013.

Having a similar problem. Right now my lead leg will not retract and seams to be slower than the follow leg. I can get it to extend but not retract. It retracted fine yesterday when I loaded it on the truck, but it was not extending with weight on it and I had to use a bottle jack to get it on the truck.
