  • Replacement Hardware Recommendation for a Curt Hitch part # C13127 on a 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • The good new is the Curt Hitch part # C13127 is confirmed to also fit your 2015 Mazda CX-5. The not so good news is that hitch installation hardware is designed for one-time-use so you would need to also replace all of the installation hardware in order for your hitch to still be under warranty. To order replacement hardware you will need part # RHK. You will want to go to the # RHK product page, select Curt as your hitch manufacturer, and then enter # C13127 as your hitch part number...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • No need to wait. I checked with Hidden Hitch and trailer hitch # 87623 officially fits the 2015 Mazda CX-5. If you are planning on doing some towing I recommend ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount, interchangeable ball set, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. And for trailer wiring use # C56011.

  • Availability of Installation Video for Curt Trailer Hitch # C13127
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said the installation of Curt trailer hitch, part # C12080, is going to be similar to the installation of Curt trailer hitch, part C13127, which you referenced. We do have a video for the installation of part # C12080, (see link). Both hitches install with four bolts to the same bolt holes, both are fishwired in, and both require lowering the exhaust. Only the hitch receiver size and the thickness of the steel differ.

  • For your 2014 Mazda CX-5 to support the Yakima FullSwing 4-Bike Rack # Y02465 or the Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Carrier # TH9027 you will need a Class III hitch with a 2-inch receiver. The hitch I recommend is Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 87623 which is a custom fit for your vehicle and is the most popular option for the Mazda CX-5. For women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans...

  • Installation of Curt trailer hitch # C13127 on a 2015 Mazda CX-5 will be the same on all models, front wheel drive and all wheel drive. • Hitch-Mount 3-Bike Rack for 2015 Mazda CX-5 With 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch
  • The 1-1/4-inch hitch we offer for the 2015 Mazda CX-5 is a Class II hitch rated for a maximum tongue weight capacity (downward force) of 350-lbs, part # C12080 from Curt. If your hitch's safety/warning sticker indicates that it is Class II-rated then you are free to use a compatible Class II bike carrier. You will want to take note of its rated tongue weight to ensure the combined load of your 3 bikes plus the weight of the carrier you choose does not exceed its rated capacity. If you happen...

  • Choosing Between 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch and 2-Inch Class III Hitch for 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • The actual weight difference between the three Class III hitches for your CX-5 and the one 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch # C12080 is the same 2-lb difference as between their shipping weights. The weight of the packaging for both hitch classes is essentially identical. A far more important consideration for your application with a 2-inch bike carrier is the hitch's tongue weight capacity, which is 525-lbs for a 2-inch Class III hitch and 300- or 350-lbs for a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch, depending...

  • Availability of Trailer Wiring Harness for 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • Neither Curt nor Tow Ready have done any testing on a 2015 CX-5 as of yet. My Curt representative tells me that the # C56175 Universal Fit wiring harness should work, but they cannot say if the plug and play options are a fit. Test fits should be performed over the next several months.

  • Trailer Hitch Comparison for a Mazda CX-5 Hidden Hitch # 87623 versus Curt # 13127
  • I have provided a link to the hitches that are confirmed as a fit for your vehicle. When comparing the Hidden Hitch Class III trailer hitch to the Curt # C13127 Class III they are very similar, and the weight capacities are the same. I have included a photo of the two hitches installed, and yes the Hidden Hitch option is recessed a little bit more under the vehicle than the Curt option. This is likely due to the profile of the hitch, and mounting style. The Hidden Hitch option uses...

  • Capacity of Hitch and Bike Rack for 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • One of the main advantages of a hitch mount rack is the higher possible capacity (trunk mount racks carry a maximum of 3 bikes) while hitch mount racks can accommodate up to 5 bikes. You already touched on the other advantage, the hitch mount rack does not come into contact with the painted finish of the vehicle, therefore the rack cannot dent or otherwise mar the finish. Although the Hidden Hitch Class III hitch you referenced, part # 87623 has a 525 lb tongue weight capacity, you...

  • Why Does Curt Class II Trailer Hitch for a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Require a Stabilization Strap
  • It is Curt's policy, the manufacturer of trailer hitch # C12080, to use the stabilization strap, # 18050, on certain trailer hitches. It affects Curt hitches from Class I to certain Class III hitches. The strap is designed to reduce some of the stress on the hitch. It does work but on some vehicles it is not that easy to find a place to connect it. If you want a Class II hitch and do not want to use a stabilization strap then use Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36528. I have included links...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2013 Mazda CX-5
  • The Hidden Hitch trailer hitch # 87623 is the most popular option for the 2013 Mazda CX-5 and does look fantastic on the vehicle as you can see in the video I have linked. The great thing is that when we installed the hitch on the vehicle is the distance from the hitch pin hole center to clear the rear bumper was only 3-3/4 inches. This will allow for many bike rack options to fit nicely on the vehicle. You will want a bike rack to be far enough away so the bike nearest the vehicle...

  • Do You Go by the Trailer Hitch Capacity or Owners Manual Capacity for a 2013 Mazda CX-5
  • Always follow the vehicle owners manual if it states the towing capacity is rated lower than the hitch. In some cases, a vehicle may have a higher capacity than the hitch and in those cases you would go by the lower hitch capacity. The rule is that you always go by the lowest rated component in the system so for your Mazda CX-5 that would be the vehicle itself. I have included links to the installation instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. If you plan on doing...

Most qualified mechanics would be able to install this hitch for you pretty easily also. I attached a copy of the installation instructions for you to check out.
