What our customers are saying:

The package arrived Friday, just 4 days after placing the order. Due to the cold weather here in Minnesota it took almost as long to get dressed for the weather as it took to install the hitch. Installation was just under 30 minutes. The hitch is truly hidden well behind the bumper. I will not have to suffer from bruised shins anymore.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Draw-Tite

Today, in our 2016 Mazda CX-5 we'll be having a look at the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Class III Receiver part number 75217. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you can see, there's absolutely nothing hanging below the bumper at all, just the 2" receiver for our Class III hitch. Everything else is tucked up behind it. As you can see, we have our standard 2 x 2 Class III opening here. We have these nice safety chain loops here which are easily accessible and easily hook on any size safety chain onto there for the most part.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Curt

Today on our 2016 Mazda CX-5, we'll be having a look at the Curt Class III 2-inch Receiver Trailer Hitch, part number C13127. This is what our Curt Class III 2-inch Trailer Hitch Receiver looks like installed on the back of our CX-5. As you can see, the only part that really sticks out is the 2-inch receiver itself. The body of the hitch is stuck up underneath the bumper cover, so you don't see it at all. It provides just a very clean installation here. It has a nice gloss black powder coat finish, so it looks like it came from the factory with this hitch installed on it.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Draw-Tite

Today on 2016 Mazda CX5, we will be installing the Draw-Tite Class 2 inch and quarter trailer hitch, part number 36602. With our hitch installed on our Mazda CX5, you can see how well tucked up it is behind the bumper. The only thing you can really see hanging down is the inch and a quarter receiver here and our safety chain loops here, which are very easy to hook safety chains onto because they are not very thick and recessed, so you can hook on even the smallest of safety chains really easily. This hitch has a 300 pound max tongue weight rating and a 3500 max gross trailer weight rating. Obviously you will want to consult the owner's manual of your CX5 to figure out which number is lower. If it is rated for a lower amount than what the hitch is rated for, obviously you will want to go by that number. You don't want to exceed the limitations of your vehicle. For a couple of measurements here to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessories you may need. From the center of our 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin hole to the back of our bumper, we are looking at about 6 inches.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Mazda CX-5 - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2014 Mazda CX-5 we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install the hidden hitch custom fit Class 3 trailer hitch receiver. This offers the 2 inch by 2 inch opening. It's part number is 87686. Here's what our hitch is going to look like installed. As you can see, you're not cosmetically adding a lot. Our cross tube is completely hidden behind that rear fascia.

Today, on our 2014 Mazda CX5, we are going to take a look at and show you how to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver. This is a custom fit Class III hitch. Its part number is 75217. Here is what our hitch is going to look like installed. As you can see, you are not cosmetically adding a lot. Our cross tube is completely hidden behind that rear fascia. Today, on this 2015 Mazda CX-5, we're going to review and install the Hidden Hitch Class III 2-inch Receiver Hitch, part number 87686. Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Mazda CX-5 - Draw-Tite

Today on this 2015 Mazda CX5, we're going to review and install the Draw Tite Max Frame Class III 2 inch receiver hitch, part number 75217. This is what the hitch looks like when it's installed in our CX5. As you can see, there's really not all that much to see but the receiver opening itself. This is our 2 inch opening here and this has a rounded collar around the edge of it. This is actually reinforcement for our tube. We'll see two hitch pin holes. The larger hole is 5/8ths of an inch in diameter and the small one is actually designed for use with a J pin stabilization pin and that works with accessories that do not have their own anti-rattle device built into them.

Next I'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. • Comparison of Available Trailer Hitches for 2016 Mazda CX-5
  • I've provided you with a side view of the Curt # C13127 and the Draw-Tite # 75217. The Draw-Tite hitch is very similar to the Curt, as you can see in the photo. Both of the hitches have the same weight bearing capabilities and would install in the same manner. The engineering folks at Curt tell us that they require the strap on certain models to protect against stress when driving over bumps or on rough pavement, while the Draw-Tite hitches don't have this requirement. I've never personally...

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for 2016 Mazda CX-5
  • I'm not sure what Mazda offers in the way of a factory hitch. I can tell you from experience that it'll be two to three times what an aftermarket hitch costs. I'd recommend going with a Class III hitch like the Draw-Tite # 75217. Once installed, you'll have a hitch with the more common 2 inch receiver, which will allow you more flexibility and choices in hitch mounted accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. When it's installed, the only portion of the hitch that will be visible...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Comparison and Recommendation for a 2016 Mazda CX-5
  • For your 2016 Mazda CX-5 there are three hitch choices available. There is the Curt Hitch part # C13127 and the Draw Tite hitch part # 75217. Both have the same capacities, install the exact same, but since Curt requires the use of a stabilizer strap, # 18050, any time you carry a non-supported load like your Thule bike rack I would rule that one out for you.

  • Does Exhaust Need To Be Removed To Install Trailer Hitch On 2016 Maxda CX-5
  • For the installation of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 75217 the muffler is very easy to remove. You just remove the two fasteners at the rear of the muffler and the 2 fasteners on the exhaust pipe going into the muffler and you can get the muffler out of the way while you install it. As the instructions state, you can lower the exhaust to have easier access, but I recommend doing it like the installers in our shop show.

  • Hitch and 4 Bike Platform Rack Solution Recommendation for a 2016 Mazda CX-5
  • I have a solution for you but Curt requires the use of the stabilizer strap part # 18050 when using any of their hitches not rated for a weight distribution system with a non-supported load like a bike rack. Failure to do so will void the warranty. So for your 2016 Mazda CX-5 I would recommend the #87686 as this hitch does not have that requirement. To convert your Thule T2 part # TH9044 to a 4 bike rack you would only need the extension part # TH918XTR. The hitch I recommended has...

  • Can Towing Capacity For 2015 Mazda CX-5 Be Increased
  • Since the towing capacity of your CX-5 is limited to 2,000 lbs by the manufacturer, you cannot increase that capacity by supplementing any part of the system. A trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite Class lll hitch, part # 75217 has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, but you always have to use the lowest rated component when towing and in this case it is the vehicle. Weight distribution is not allowed for any of the hitches we have available for your CX-5.

It comes with a ball mount, interchangeable ball set, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. And for trailer wiring use # C56011.

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller for a 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • There are some Class III trailer hitches available for your 2015 Mazda CX-5. The most popular option is # C13127. But even though the hitch is rated for 3,500 gross trailer weight, your CX-5 is only rated for 2,000 pounds (see the towing section in the owner's manual for additional information) so you will be limited to 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and up to 300 pounds tongue weight. This works out since the trailer you are buying weighs less. Like you said, none of the hitches...

  • Availability of Installation Video for Curt Trailer Hitch # C13127
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said the installation of Curt trailer hitch, part # C12080, is going to be similar to the installation of Curt trailer hitch, part C13127, which you referenced. We do have a video for the installation of part # C12080, (see link). Both hitches install with four bolts to the same bolt holes, both are fishwired in, and both require lowering the exhaust. Only the hitch receiver size and the thickness of the steel differ.

  • Hitch-Mount 3-Bike Rack for 2015 Mazda CX-5 With 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch
  • The 1-1/4-inch hitch we offer for the 2015 Mazda CX-5 is a Class II hitch rated for a maximum tongue weight capacity (downward force) of 350-lbs, part # C12080 from Curt. If your hitch's safety/warning sticker indicates that it is Class II-rated then you are free to use a compatible Class II bike carrier. You will want to take note of its rated tongue weight to ensure the combined load of your 3 bikes plus the weight of the carrier you choose does not exceed its rated capacity. If you happen...

  • Recommended Hitch, Wiring, and Trailer Towing Setup for a 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • Good news, I can help make sure you have everything you need to tow your trailer. The Curt Class III hitch # C13127, you were looking at does install easily, but I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch # 75217 instead. The Curt hitch requires you to use a stabilization strap when carrying any non-trailer loads so if you plan on using your hitch for a cargo carrer or bike rack you will need to use # 18050 to no void the warranty, but with the Draw-Tite you will not need this...

  • I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13127 hitch for your 2015 Mazda CX-5. It will provide what you are looking for in a hitch. In addition to the Curt Trailer Hitch, one of our hanging bike racks that I recommend using is the Thule Apex 4 Bike Rack # TH9025. Not only can it hold up to 4 bikes, but it also includes a hitch lock and a bike lock for the added security you are looking for. This bike rack also has the tilting feature on it so that you can easily access the...

  • Trailer Hitch Comparison for a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Draw-Tite # 75217 versus Curt # 13127
  • I have provided a link to the hitches that are confirmed as a fit for your vehicle. When comparing the Draw-Tite Class III trailer hitch # 75217 to the Curt # C13127 Class III they are very similar, and the weight capacities are the same. I have included a photo of the two hitches installed, and yes the Draw-Tite option is recessed a little bit more under the vehicle than the Curt option. This is likely due to the profile of the hitch, and mounting style. The Hidden Hitch option uses...

  • Choosing Between 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch and 2-Inch Class III Hitch for 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • The actual weight difference between the three Class III hitches for your CX-5 and the one 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch # C12080 is the same 2-lb difference as between their shipping weights. The weight of the packaging for both hitch classes is essentially identical. A far more important consideration for your application with a 2-inch bike carrier is the hitch's tongue weight capacity, which is 525-lbs for a 2-inch Class III hitch and 300- or 350-lbs for a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch, depending...

  • Capacity of Hitch and Bike Rack for 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • One of the main advantages of a hitch mount rack is the higher possible capacity (trunk mount racks carry a maximum of 3 bikes) while hitch mount racks can accommodate up to 5 bikes. You already touched on the other advantage, the hitch mount rack does not come into contact with the painted finish of the vehicle, therefore the rack cannot dent or otherwise mar the finish. Although the Draw-Tite Class III hitch you referenced, part # 75217 has a 525 lb tongue weight capacity, you will...

The hitch I recommend is Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75217 which is a custom fit for your vehicle and is the most popular option for the Mazda CX-5. • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Trailer Wiring Harness For 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • The installation of a trailer hitch on your CX-5 is an easy bolt-on and requires no drilling into the frame. I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 75217 for your Maxda. I recommend this trailer hitch because the installation is very similar to the Curt Hitch, part # C13127, but no stabilizing strap is required when using the hitch for non-towing accessories. The use of a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 is required by Curt or it will void the warranty....

The not so good news is that hitch installation hardware is designed for one-time-use so you would need to also replace all of the installation hardware in order for your hitch to still be under warranty. • The Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75217 is the most popular option for the 2013 Mazda CX-5 and does look fantastic on the vehicle. The great thing is that when we installed the hitch on the vehicle is the distance from the hitch pin hole center to clear the rear bumper was only 3-3/4 inches. This will allow for many bike rack options to fit nicely on the vehicle. You will want a bike rack to be far enough away so the bike nearest the vehicle is still far enough from the vehicle. Take...

  • Do You Go by the Trailer Hitch Capacity or Owners Manual Capacity for a 2013 Mazda CX-5
  • Always follow the vehicle owners manual if it states the towing capacity is rated lower than the hitch. In some cases, a vehicle may have a higher capacity than the hitch and in those cases you would go by the lower hitch capacity. The rule is that you always go by the lowest rated component in the system so for your Mazda CX-5 that would be the vehicle itself.
