Chevrolet Cruze Trailer Hitch Questions and Answers

  • Is Bumper or Fascia Trimming Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Chevy Cruze
  • To install Curt trailer hitch # C11282, you will not need to make any modifications to the bumper or rear fascia. You will need to temporarily lower the exhaust by simply removing the affected area off of its hangers while supporting the pipes with a strap. And there is a heat shield that has to be modified as well but it is under the vehicle and not visible. Once installed the receiver will be below the rear fascia. I have included a link to a video showing installation of the hitch on a 20

  • Options for Carrying 4 Bikes on a 2014 Chevy Cruze
  • The difference in the shipping weight for the Hidden Hitch part # 60299 and the Curt Hitch part # C11282 that is also a confirmed fit for your 2014 Chevy Cruze is due to the different side bracket plate designs. The Curt hitch has much larger brackets attached to the cross tubes with more material and that is why it weighs about 10 lbs more. All the hitches available for your vehicle are Class I hitches. These hitches are limited to only carrying 2 bikes due to the limited weight capacity of

  • Compatibility of Curt Class I Receiver # C11282 on 2012 Chevy Cruze with RS Package
  • According to Curt Manufacturing, the # C11282 is compatible with all models of the Chevy Cruze, including those equipped with the RS package. If you will be using the hitch for a bike rack or a cargo carrier, keep in mind that the warranty requirements of the hitch require that a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 is required. The Draw-Tite hitch, part # 24882 has no such requirement, which is why I would recommend it over the Curt model. I have linked you to installation instructions and

  • Bike Rack Clearance Provided by Curt Class I Receiver # C11282 Installed on 2013 Chevy Cruze
  • According to my contact at Curt Manufacturing, the distance from the rear-most hitch attachment point to the hitch pin hole in the receiver is 5-1/2 inches. We have not yet completed an installation of that hitch on a 2013 Cruze, but with this measurement, we can determine if your bike rack will clear your bumper. If you find the rear most hitch attachment hole in the frame of your Cruze, and measure rearward 5-1/2 inches, you can see where the hitch pin hole will sit in relation to your b

  • Can a 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Hitch Adapter be Used with Curt Trailer Hitch C11282 on a 2012 Chevy Cruze
  • As you have mentioned, the Curt trailer hitch # C11282 (and other brands) for the 2012 Chevy Cruze have 1-1/4 inch receivers. Because of this, to use a 2 inch accessory, you will need to use a hitch adapter, # HTAD. However, this will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The Curt hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds, by using the adapter, it is reduced to 100 pounds. This means that the combined weight of the bike rack and bikes cannot exceed 100 pounds.

  • Recommendation for Carrying Three 60 lb. Downhill Bikes with a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze

All of the hitches for the Cruze are Class I hitches and are limited to carrying two bikes only. The reason for this limitation is that the extra torque created by hanging a third bike that far away from the back of the vehicle can cause damage to the bike rack and bikes, hitch or vehicle frame. We do have a solution though. I would recommend the Hid
