If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Slipper Spring Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Slipper Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Slipper Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

Perfect OEM replacement

by:

I installed these on my 1999 boat trailer that had very rusted leaf springs. They are twice and strong and gave me an extra inch of clearance from my fenders which is great because the tires used to rub going over bumps. No idea if the coating will make them last longer, but they look nicer.

Quick shipping, quality product.

Parts look very good. Haven't installed them yet. Ordering was easy and item shipped quickly. No problems at all.

We have used yall several times previously.100% satisfied all times. Good quality, good price and packaging is superb. We are sure to be calling on you again.

Springs are good I guess. I bought the wrong size. They were to long. I usually only use trailer twice a year, once on way to riverat beginning of season and then back home at the end of season.

by:

Excellent service, in-stock items, and prompt delivery.

by:

Product was very good good but only came with one bushing on the eye end. the open end of the leaf spring doesn't come with bushing. have to buy separate.

The Anti Rust is Inadequate and not worth the extra cost. I rinse my trailer after every trip out, but found the coating does not hold up to Saltwater at all. They started to Rust within the first few time in and out of the boat ramp.

Delivered on time, product looks great.

by:

Haven’t put them on yet but I’m extremely happy with them

Exactly what I ordered. Perfect

  • New Brake Assemblies, Hub/Drums, Brake Lines, and Bearing Buddy for Trailer with 3,500 lb Axle
For as trashed as those brake assemblies are I am impressed with how spotless that spindle is! Based on the bearing numbers you mentioned you have a #84 spindle and the hub part # AKHD-545-35-G-K is correct. Since this its galvanized it's a really great option as it will fight corrosion. The flexible brake line kits like the part # 18SI-BLKIT is what I would go with. They are just as durable as anything else and a lot easier to install. The brake assemblies # AKFBBRK-35R-D and # AKFBBRK-35L-D...

  • How to Get Clearance for Slipper Spring Compressing on Top of Wheel Well
To answer your first question a double-eye spring would not compress less than your current 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Open Eye End # e33SR and I do not recommend going with a higher-rated spring than what your trailer is rated for as that will make your ride very stiff and unpleasant. The only real options you have to get more clearance are to raise the fender if you can or add one that has more height (I have linked our selection of fenders for you to check out) or to cut off your current...

  • Is Bushing Required on Open Eye End of Slipper Spring
A bushing is not required for the c-hook end (sometimes called an open eye end) of a slipper spring like the 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Open Eye End # e33SR. The closed eye of this spring does have a bushing included; I have added a link to a video review of this spring for you to take a look at, as well as a link to a help article on slipper spring suspension for you to take a look at.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Recommendation for 26 Long Leaf Spring on 3,750 lb Axle
The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e48SR is a good replacement for your boat trailer as it meets all of the specs and is compatible with an axle that's just a little higher when it comes to weight rating. Please note that what you do to one side of the axle you need to do to the other so you'll need 2 of these leaf springs.

  • Can a Single Axle Boat Trailer Be Switched From a Slipper Spring Suspension to Double Eye
To switch to a Double Eye Spring # e48SR you would need to also change out your Rear Hanger # 30-20 since you will be adding Shackles # K71-358-00. This is required since the rear hanger has to be 1-3/4" wide on the outer versus at least 1-3/4" wide on the inner like you get with a Slipper Spring Hanger # CES83FR for a Slipper Spring # e33SR.

  • Leaf Spring Replacement for 3,600 lb Boat that is 26 inches Long
The best leaf spring for your application is the item # e27SR which matches the 26 inch length you need and has a 4,500 lb capacity. This would have just enough extra capacity that won't fail but also would still flex enough to cushion the ride quality.

  • Do Slipper Springs Use Bushings on Both Ends?
Hey Mark. There is not a bushing on the hangers used on slipper spring trailers like item # e33SR. Smaller single axle trailers will have a bolt that runs through the hanger, some larger and tandem axle trailers will have a welded tube that the spring sits on, but there's no need to use a bushing. The etrailer item # e33SR is a 26-1/4" long, 2,150 lbs capacity spring, that works with axles up to a 4,300 lbs capacity. It has a Dacromet finish, which is great for rust resistance. What kind...

  • Do You Have a 5 Leaf Slipper Spring 26" Long for My 2007 EZ-Loader Boat Trailer?
Hello Stan, What are your axles rated for on your 2007 ez-loader? The closest thing we have to what you are describing is the 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Open Eye End for 4,300-lb Trailer Axles - 26-1/4" Long # e33SR. My main concern is that you said 26" and the one I mentioned is 26 1/4". Most of the time when you replace a leaf spring you need something that is shorter than the measurement you get as they do stretch over time. You want to make sure you are measuring the leaf spring unloaded,...

If you wanted to switch it up to a two eye leaf spring I would need to know the distance from the center of the two bolts. You can email me back that measurement if you decide to make the change. A Nylon Bushing # TRBU11561 is not required to be used on the open end of the 4-Leaf Slipper Spring # e33SR. Since the bushing is not going to be fully encased it stands that under the weight of the trailer it will fail and break apart more easily. I recommend spraying some LubeMaster Dry Silicone Spray # RM-747 on the open end bolt and contact areas of the spring. This will provide lubrication to the parts without attracting dirt.

Thanks for the picture! The spring shouldn't hit the frame like yours does in the picture, so the correct solution would be to either add a longer front hanger or using a shorter spring. The correct replacement hanger will be dependent on the width of your spring. If you have a 1-3/4" wide spring the longest hanger we offer is the CE Smith Front Hanger Bracket for Trailer Slipper Springs # CE14016G which is 2-1/4" tall. The Slipper Spring # e33SR referenced in your question is indeed the closest option we have available for a slipper spring that matches the dimensions on your trailer. Slipper springs come in 1-3/4 inch, 2 inch, 2-1/2 inch, and 3 inch widths, so you most likely do have a 1-3/4 inch width spring set, especially since you mentioned that it looks a bit over 1-1/2 inches.
