Comparing 4-Way to 5-Way Trailer Connector Adapters # 20036 and # 47515
Question:
I have a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country and recently had it wired with a four flat trailer connector. Im looking to convert the 4-flat to a 5-flat for use with a boat trailer having surge brakes. part #s 20036 and 47515 seem to do essentially the same thing. Is there an advantage of one over the other on the Town and Country application? On #20036, what is the length of the blue wire from connector terminal to reverse light end? Some reviewers think the wire is too short for their vehicle. Is the length from 4plug to 5plug 18? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
4-Way to 5-Way adapters # 47515 and # 20036 are essentially the same. The difference is that # 20036 has longer wiring with it than # 47515. For that reason we normally recommend # 20036. The 4-Way to 5-Way portion is 18 inches long. The blue wire though is 60 inches long from end to end. Additional light gauge wire, such as # 16-1-1, sold in 1 foot increments could be spliced in if a longer connection is needed.
