Slip On Disc Brake Kit Recommendation for a 5,200 lb Axle with 6 on 5-1/2 inch Bolt Pattern

Question:

I have an EZ loader trailer that I want to add disc brakes to the second axle. It is a 5200# axle, with 6 lugs on 5.5inch centers. The second axle uses an oil bath bearing set and uses lug bolts rather than studs and nuts. Will a slip on rotor work in this application? Does each manufacturer use the same bolt spacing on their caliper? I would like to replace the existing UFP calipers with Kodiak SS calipers. I am wondering if I would have to replace the mounting brackets as well.

We have a slip-on disc brake kit that would work well on your hubs that have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern.

However, since your back axle uses hub-centric wheels I cannot recommend a slip-on kit like part # K2R526DKG although this kit matches your axle capacity and bolt pattern. Since your back axles uses wheel bolts instead of lug nuts this means the wheel centers on the hub. Since a slip-on kit like this will add space between the wheel and the hub your wheel may not perfectly center on the hub.

I would instead recommend you install this kit on the front axle if it uses lug nuts. It is more common that front trailer axles are used for brake axles anyway.

The brake caliper mounting flange is designed to fit nearly all brake mounting flanges that can be found on trailer spindles.
