Tekonsha Prodigy P2 trailer brake controller, # 90885, connects to a fused power source directly to the battery and not an ignition source. This means the controller draws power even with the key off. However, it goes into a kind of sleep mode after about 15 minutes of inactivity and will not draw much power from the vehicle battery.
If you will be parking the vehicle for an extended period of time, you can also unplug the connector at the back of the unit, which will immediately power down the controller.
