The great thing about electric brake controllers is that they are not vehicle specific and most vehicles can be hardwired with one. For your 2006 Freightliner, you will need a brake controller like the P2, # 90885, and a hardwire installation kit.
The P2 is going to give you the most bang for the buck and it is also one of the most reliable and easy to use controllers available but the Hopkins controller can also be used. For an installation kit you would want part # ETBC7.
Normally, you would first install a 4-Way flat and then the ETBC7. But, if your Freightliner has combined turn signal and brake lights on one wire using the same bulb AND the running lights on on their own wire and bulb, then there is an alternative.
On the ETBC7, you could cut off the 4-Way plug and hardwire the yellow wire to the left turn signal/brake light circuit, the brown wire to the running light circuit, the green wire to the right turn/brake light circuit. Then you would ground the white wire to the vehicle frame, and attach the red and blue wires as indicated in the FAQ for 12 volt power and brake output. This FAQ also covers installation of the brake controller.
If the vehicle has separate turn signals and brake lights on separate circuits then I recommend installing wiring kit # C59236 to provide a 4-Way that you can plug into the ETBC7. I have linked instructions for this wiring kit for you.
