Hey David!

Unfortunately, the Curt CrossWing # C92DR isn't compatible with the Curt Helux Shock-Absorbing Pin Box because of the Helux's articulating design.

Instead, I recommend the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection # 3220. It's another lightweight option that mounts directly over a 2-5/16" gooseneck ball and can work with the Helux when paired with the required Andersen Helux Lockout Kit # AN64ZR.

The Andersen also offers up to 9" of offset (5" from the base and 4" from the coupler adapter), which can help provide additional cab clearance, especially with short-bed trucks. Just keep in mind that it doesn't replace a sliding hitch as you may need one for a really short bed, especially if the trailer isn't tapered on the front nose for clearance.

What year, make, and model truck do you have, and does it currently have a gooseneck ball or factory prep package? I can help confirm the correct setup!

Well that's a bummer. Guess I didn't research that well enough. Just purchased the Crosswing and it arrived yesterday. Also ordered the specific saftey chains too.... Trailer: 27 Keystone Cougar 30REP, comes with the Curt Helux pin box. Truck: 24 GMC 2500 HD AT-4 crew cab with the 6-3/4 bed. Concerns: -Weight -Cab clearance -Bed rail clearance (both above and inside from rear of pin box to bed cover rail)

@David Hey David, that's definitely frustrating, especially since you just received the CrossWing and already purchased the safety chains! You do have the option of keeping it and replacing the Helux with a standard rigid pin box, but I'd explore exchanging the hitch first. For your GMC's 6-3/4' bed, the Andersen # 3220 is a promising lightweight alternative at just 35 lbs. It works with the Helux using the required Lockout Kit # AN64ZR, although that restricts the pin box's shock-absorbing movement. Your Cougar's contoured front cap should help with cab clearance, and the Andersen offers up to 7-1/4" of combined offset. To verify turning clearance, measure from the center of your truck's gooseneck ball to the cab, then from the trailer's kingpin to the outermost front corner of its nose. The Andersen also adjusts up to approximately 19-9/16" high. Ideally, you'll want at least 6" between the trailer overhang and your bed rails when towing level. We'd also need to check how far the Helux extends behind the kingpin to make sure it won't contact your bed cover rails during sharp turns.

I did not like the hitch nor the way it fastened I had to repair it twice the head came loose and I ultimately threw the crosswing out. It also caused twisting on my router Flex hitch which would have necessitated and aftermarket kit for the to address the flex issue on the PIN. I recommend one of the BMW full fifth wheel hitches and now that I've switched to it I don't have any checking and yes it is heavy but I feel safe. You get what you pay for

@John Hey John, sorry to hear about the issues you had! Were you using a lockout kit like # BLU62XR with your cushioned Rota-Flex pin box? The CrossWing isn't designed to work with an articulating pin box unless that movement is properly locked out, as it can cause unwanted stress on the hitch. Glad to hear the B&W is working better for you! It's definitely heavier, but it's a solid hitch.

The crossing is a great setup. I use it to tow with. I don’t think you’ll regret it. I honestly don’t believe you’ll need the shock absorbing setup? But that’s a decision only you can make. I’d say try the crosswing first, if you can.

Oh, I apologize. I just reread your question. I missed that your trailer already has the absorbing style pin box. On that note. As the tech responded. About the Anderson. You could try that route? I’ve seen too many of them crack or break.
