Will the Equal-i-zer EQ37120ET Fit a 5" Tall x 3" Wide Trailer Frame?

Question:
I own a 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and am interested in purchasing Weight Distributing Hitch EQ37120 ET. The trailer tongue frame that I will be using this hitch for is framed with a closed steel box member that is 5 high and 3 wide, which is wider than most common trailer framing. I didnt see any information on this hitch that describes the maximum width framing it can be used on. The contents list for this hitch list four 3/8 x 3.25 long grade 5 bolts. Can I simply get some longer 3/8 grade 5 bolts and use this hitch?

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET fits trailer frames up to 6" tall, so your 5" frame height is no problem. The only issue is the 3" width of your frame since the included bracket bolts are only 3-1/4" long, which will be a little too short for your setup.
You can simply replace those with longer 3/8" Grade 5 or higher bolts to accommodate the wider frame. As long as you maintain the same bolt diameter and use Grade 5 or stronger hardware, the brackets will work just fine with your 5" tall x 3" wide frame.

Hi Jesse, Thanks for confirming how to adapt this hitch to my trailer, actually my son's trailer. I didn't see a manufacturer's tag on it, so I assume it was made at a local fabrication shop. Steve
