Question:
Good afternoon! Im sorry to be that guy asking a question that has been answered numerous times in the QandA forum, but before I a load of cash on a flat-tow system I wanted to be absolutely sure that I was purchasing everything I needed for both the rv side and the tow vehicle side. My vehicle I plan on flat-towing is a 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid. In my reading about set-ups for hybrids, I have seen the necessity to be able to keep the battery of the Hybrid charged during the towing evolution. I will also protective screens to minimize any road debris damaging the vehicle in tow. Thank You!

Hello Michael,
Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!
There is a lot of money that goes into flat towing, so I do not blame you one bit for writing in to make sure you are getting the right setup for your Maverick.
Here is the package you will want for your 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid:
- Base Plate: etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # e64FV
- Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # e34ZR (safety cables included)
- Vehicle Protection: Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screen for Towed Vehicles # RM-4750
- Wiring: Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Hybrid Adapter Cord # RM-152-1676-7
- Charge Line (to keep your battery charged): Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25
- Brake Light Relay: Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
- Braking System: Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Proportional # BLU37TR *If you do not have an active 12V outlet, you will also need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit, 20 amps # RM-9332 to power the braking system.
- You will also most likely need a high-low adapter to get your tow bar level. I attached an image so you can see where the base plate arms will sit once everything is installed.
With your Maverick parked on level ground, please measure from the ground to where the base plate arms will be. Then, with your RV also on level ground, measure from the ground to the top inside edge of the 2" receiver opening on the back of your RV. Send me those two measurements and I can find you the right high-low adapter to get everything lined up properly.
*If you would prefer a one-time install braking system instead of a portable system, just let me know if your motorhome has air brakes or hydraulic brakes and I can get you set up with the right one.
You will also want to make sure you follow the recreational towing instructions in your Maverick's owner's manual each time you flat tow, including Ford's procedure for placing the Hybrid into Neutral Tow mode.
I also attached a great help article on Flat Towing as well. If you plan on doing the install yourself, I recommend giving yourself an entire weekend dedicated to the install, breaks are a must so you don't get frustrated. If you do need some help however, I did attach our Dealer Locator so you can see who we have in your area.
Are you new to flat towing, or just getting a different car set-up?

Thank you Katie for responding. The RV I will be using to tow is a 2025 Coachmen Leprechaun 298KB, so the braking system will be hydraulic. I am new to flat towing, so that is why I wanted to get verification on the particular parts to do so. I plan to use a professional installer as though I am mechanically inclined, I believe this may be above my comfort level. I appreciate you providing the dealer locator search engine to the email. I will also read over the article you provided to prepare me for flat towing. I have been towing a Honda Fit on a tow dolly with the Leprechaun, but want the ease of connecting/disconnecting afforded by the flat tow systems.
