2004 Jeep Wrangler Complete Flat Tow Setup

Updated 06/12/2024 | Published 06/04/2024

Question:

Hello, I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. I want to install a base plate, buy a tow bar, and get all the parts that I will need, including the braking device. Can you recommend what will be required for a complete setup that will be maybe not the absolute top of the line, but not the bottom of the line either. Thanks, Ron

Hello Ron, thanks for reaching out. Setting up your 2004 Wrangler to flat tow will be pretty straightforward. I recommend that you go with our etrailer brand for the base plate and tow bar. These are made for us by Demco, so you get a great USA made tow bar and they are priced a bit lower than other name brands. Here is what I recommend:

- etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # e98946

- etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # e34ZR

- Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267

- Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # SM99251

- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400

That will cover all of the main components. Keep in mind the base plate is designed to fit with the standard factory Jeep bumper, so if you have something else on the front just let me know. The Demco brake system is for RVs with hydraulic brakes. Again, let me know if you have something different. You may also need a drop hitch like part # BLU28XR to compensate for any height differences between the base plate arms and the hitch on your motorhome.

I have linked a few install videos for you below. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
