Perfect for tow bars with built-in channels, this complete kit includes everything you need to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed car. Diodes prevent feedback and wire your car to operate as a combined system.
Features:
Specs:
Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn signal lights. A wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.
Separate vs. Combined Lighting Systems
Some automobiles operate on a 3-wire system, wherein the brake signal and the turn signals travel along different wires to illuminate different lights. (Typically, these vehicles have amber turn signals.) This is referred to as a "separate lighting system". When you hook up for flat towing using this kit, your towed car's lighting system will operate in a combined fashion regardless of whether it typically has combined or separate lighting. This means that the brake and turn signals sent by your RV to your towed car will be carried on a single wire. As a result, your car's brake lights will do the flashing for the turn signals. Your vehicle will still function as designed when not hooked up to your RV.
Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?
Because this kit wires your vehicle as a combined system, a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

The installation videos were very helpful. I had two installation issues that were answered with a prompt phone call. One call was on a Saturday morning. I highly recommend E-trailer!
Highly recommend E-Trailer for all of your towing accessories. Great product, great customer service!!
The wiring harness for signals and brake lights was a four-wire ribbon mold with a white, brown, yellow and green. I installed it on a 2001 GMC Yukon XL. There was barely enough wire remaining at the front bumper area to install into the 6-wire plug. The four wires go to different places and have to be pulled apart which risks exposing copper strands. I would have preferred to have four separate wires to lower risk of peeling the cladding. The worst part is that after installing DEMCO's Delta Force supplemental brake, both of my towed GMC Yukon XL signal lights would blink when I used my RV signals, whether left or right. I've towed it over 13,000 miles now on four trips and haven't been hit or stopped by the St Pol. They veh's behind me see both Yukon lights blink, but they can see the yellow, intended turn signal on my RV as those lights are almost 6 ft high. When I decide to wire my 2020 Silverado, I won't buy a kit from you, just the diodes. I'll buy my own AWG 16 or 14 (? can't remember) wire in the same colors. I'll bundle it and put it my own black flex loom. That's the other thing. Your Roadmaster kit didn't have anywhere near enough loom to protect the wire.
So far so good. Self installed on 2018 Ford F150. RV side was a breeze. Written instructions are weak. The truck side included economy wiring kit which required cutting tailight and brakelight wires in order to tap diods into lines. If doing it again, I would order the Hopkins custom wiring kit HM56009. It doesn't require cutting wires. It plugs into factory connections.
The plug in to auto did not work, had to get another. Being that it is enclosed within unit wrapping, I JUST HAD TO TIE IT UP FOR TRAVEL. so ITS functionality, side lights did not work also. Finally it is quite heavy. Overall stay away from this unit.
Works great! A bit difficult to install but once you understand the concept it's easy.
Great proguct
Works good,easy to install.
Wiring kit is a must have. What keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that you need to use butt connectors to connect to truck wiring harness. Best would be to have plug and play connectors or this wiring harness.
Works fine to connect our tow car to the RV
Cord no longer works when using the left directional light.
I don’t think my installer got it right. Brake lights override the turn signals. Everything else works great.
The instructions and materials are perfect for my tow vehicle. Looking forward to using them in the future.
Install was straightforward. I installed on a 370z. I have three issues though:1.the wire end connects are not heat shrink (using a heat gun) so I added heat shrink tubing. 2: the wire is too short. I snaked the wire through the interior and it ended up being about 6 inches too short so I had to splice additional wire (which hacks me off), and 3. The wire loom is too short. Not enough to fit between the taillights. No issues with etrailer but seems that Roadmaster could have spared just a bit more expense for a better install.
Does what it is intended to do. Took a little time to install but it came with all the instructions I required, and it all looks and works great!
Wow!!! So very impressed with this company!!’ Haley helped me by phone make sure everything I ordered was right for my RV and Smartcar (tow bar, base plate, battery shutoff and wiring). It came quick and the quality of the products (Blue Ox) are outstanding. Highly recommend this company!! Thank you for helping me!!
Little time consuming to do put all good things take time
Works great!!! Just finished a 7,900 mile loop around the US, and they performed flawlessly.
Excellent product
Easy installation
Realitively easy to install. Just understanding the best way to route the wire.
Worth the time to install, very easy to disconnect and reconnect
Worked well just like video, snaked wire thru divers side frame to behind wheel well and run to front of jeep, was a little time consuming not having a lift.
worked out fine. But I was sent 3 harnesses and had to remove the one from the tow bar.
Great product, with etrailer on line video on [online] the installation was a breeze.
