Replacement Air Conditioner for Tiffin Allegro Bus 40QSP

Updated 08/17/2026 | Published 08/09/2026

Question:

Looking to purchase a new a/c unit for my tiffin allegro bus 40qsp. It supposedly has Mach 8 units. So I would like to stick with same to be compatible with my thermostat. Also it has a plenum style ducted unit so there is no dump hole or access to the unit from inside the rv. Would like to know my options with best cooling capabilities.

Hi Jordan,

Due to a refrigerant change in 2024, the wiring on the AC units and inside the control boxes was redone due to increased safety measures. That being said, any AC unit produced after 2024 will not be able to work with your current thermostat and will require its own.

Because you have a plenum style ducted system that has no access from the inside of the RV, I don't think any of our air conditioners will work for you. Our air conditioners, whether they're for a ducted or non-ducted system, have an air distribution box that is required to work with the AC. This is primarily due to the fact that control boxes in new ACs are attached to the inside of the air distribution box instead of inside the rooftop unit along with other sensors. You could use a non-ducted unit like the Furrion Chill Cube Variable Speed AC part # FR59TD that has manual controls as well as a temperature sensing remote that you can bring with you in the camper and will turn on the AC based on the temp near the remote. This system does require a 14"x14" hole to be cut in the ceiling to install it though. If you're not wanting to cut a hole, I suggest reaching out to Tiffin to see if they have a solution for this type of ducting system.

Do you use your AC for cooling only or do you prefer one with a heat pump?

So even a new mach 8 unit wouldn’t work?

@JordanG The only Coleman Mach 8 we have is the Coleman Mach 8 Plus part # CM74MR. Our site says it requires an air distribution box, thermostat (still not compatible with thermostats prior to 2024), and a plenum kit. The model we have ,37004-079, doesn't have a condensate pump to drain the water into tubing so it would drain onto the roof. (If that's what you mean by no dump hole). I'm getting conflicting info that it'll work with your system but also that it needs a ceiling assembly and plenum kit so I think reaching out to Coleman to confirm would be the best course of action.
