Thanks for the information Mark and welcome back! To add a brake controller to your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty w/ Custom Harness item # RED26CR. For a 7-Way that will plug into your tow module wiring, you'll want the Curt Replacement OEM USCAR Trailer Connector item # C42JR.

The Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED26CR is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your Silverado. This is the safest way because it limits the amount of stress on both your truck and trailer. The Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob. It's about the size of a nickel and you don't have to worry about banging your knee on a conventional style controller.

The Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED26CR includes a custom fit wiring adapter that will plug directly into a port on your Silverado. The port's located between the brake pedal and e-brake against the firewall in a black plastic looking box. I attached a picture below that'll help you find it along with an installation video.

The Curt Replacement OEM USCAR Trailer Connector item # C42JR is going to plug directly into the factory harness behind your rear bumper. This is a dual 7-way and 4-way connector that is identical to the ones coming out on new GM trucks. It'll pop right into that blank spot.
