Using Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger On 2026 Outback Wilderness Charing 200Ah Battery Bank

Question:
I have a 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness vehicle and Im in the process of purchasing a 2026 Rockwood Freedom 2380 pop up camper. Im installing 2 lithium 100ah batteries. Ive read that a 7 pin connector will not provide adequate amperage to charge up lithium batteries. To correct this, I would like to run a direct line with an in-line. fuse from my vehicle starter battery to rear bumper area and end with an Anderson connector. On trailer side I would install a Redarc BCDC converter behind the Anderson receiving connector. I would also connect my 100w solar panel to the Redarc convertor. Please review these plans and make me aware of any flaws in this way to substantially increase the amps to safely charge the batteries. Also, specifically advise concerning: Gauge and type wiring to use. Size fuse to install close to starter battery. Vehicle has a 190 alternator. Size and type of Anderson connector. Any other recommendations, etc. I will also need your assistance with placing my parts order. Thank you.

Hey William! Your plan looks good. The Redarc BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D is exactly what I'd use to charge your lithium batteries from the Outback. The 7-way typically only provides a maintenance charge, and with a 200Ah battery bank it won't recharge your batteries in any reasonable amount of time.
I'd run 6 AWG copper wire to a 50A Anderson (SB50) connector. Protect it with a 40A fuse at the starting battery and another 40A fuse between the Redarc and the batteries. Your 100W panel can connect directly to the Redarc unit since it has a built-in MPPT solar controller. Other than that, I think you've put together an excellent charging setup.
Where are you headed with the Rockwood once you get everything set up and ready to go?
