How to Determine Capacity of Kuat Pivot v3 Swing Away Hitch Extender

Updated 08/18/2026 | Published 07/22/2026

Question:

I'm looking at the Kuat Pivot v3 here and I see it has two listed capacities. Can you explain how that is figured? It isn't overly clear to me from the description. Thanks.

Hey Adam, sure thing! On the Kuat Pivot v3 # KU38CR (Passenger Side) and # KU98CR (Driver Side) you're measuring from the hitch pin hole on your actual accessory. If you already have your bike rack, or some kind of cargo carrier, measure from the hitch pin hole out to the farthest edge.

If your measurement is 28" or less the capacity is 250 lbs. If you're over 28" then the capacity is 150 lbs out to a maximum of 40". I went ahead and added two diagrams below to illustrate this for you.

What kind of setup do you have and what will you be mounting with the Pivot v3?

Thanks Robin, the diagrams really help. I'm planning on using it with a 2-bike rack so I'll measure that before I order.

@Adam you're welcome! That sounds like a good plan. Just measure from the hitch pin hole on the bike rack out to the farthest edge and you'll know which capacity applies to your setup.
