How Do I Use the ECO/GEAR Button on the Furrion Chill Cube Remote?

Updated 08/10/2026 | Published 07/21/2026

Question:

Would like better instructions on the use of the eco/gear button on the remote for the cube. Also an explanation of the different modes available and when to use them.

Hello Beverly,

Thanks for writing in, I'm glad you found us =)

Since you have the Furrion Chill Cube RV AC System w/ Air Distribution Box & Remote - 18,000 Btu - Non-Ducted - R32 # FR27TD, here's what the ECO/GEAR button and the different operating modes do.

The GEAR button is basically a power-saving feature. Each time you press it, it cycles between 75%, 50%, and Cancel. At the 75% and 50% settings, the air conditioner limits its power consumption, which can be helpful if you're trying to reduce the load on your power source or conserve energy. If you want the unit to run at full capacity for the best cooling performance, just keep pressing the button until the GEAR function is canceled.

The MODE button changes how the unit operates. Auto mode lets the air conditioner decide when to cool and adjust its operation based on the room temperature, so it's a good option if you don't want to make constant adjustments. Cool mode is the one you'll use when you want to cool the room to a specific temperature. Dry mode is designed to remove humidity from the air and works well when it feels damp inside, even if it isn't especially hot. Fan mode simply circulates air without running the compressor, so it won't cool the room. You may also notice Heat listed on some versions of the remote, but the owner's manual notes that cooling-only models do not support that function.

For most situations, I'd recommend using Cool mode, setting the temperature where you're comfortable, and then adjusting the fan speed to your preference. If you're plugged into a limited power source and don't need maximum cooling, you can use the GEAR function to reduce power consumption. If the unit isn't keeping up with the heat, just cancel the GEAR setting and it'll return to normal operation.

I also attached the instructions.

What kind of camper did this go in? Any final summer trips you are looking forward to?

Kate, Thank you for your reply. It was very helpful. The cube is in our 2025 Keystone Cougar. We are very happy with the Cube and the power it uses seems to be minimal.
