Do Inner Trailer Hub Bearings fit Tight To Spindles
Updated 07/22/2014 | Published 07/20/2014 >
Question:
I have a 1970? boat trailer that had lm67048 wheel bearings on it and one side failed. The inner bearing had to be driven off the spindle to be removed. I put the new 67010 races in the hub and installed the inner bearing and grease seal 203013. When I tried to slide the hub back on the inner bearing stuck tight to the spindle and I had to tap the bearing all the way back, put the front bearing in and tightened down. I then removed the hub from the other side and had to drive the rear [inner] bearing off the spindle to remove the hub. Is this normal or do I have the wrong size bearing I.D.?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The inner bearings on a hub can fit pretty tight. Light tapping is within reason, but if you really had to hit on them to get them to move then you might have the wrong bearing or the spindle is damaged. It sounds like you didn't have to hit them too hard though so you should be fine.
I attached a bearing removal and inspection video for you to check out as well.
