Flat Tow Components for 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Updated 07/20/2026 | Published 07/15/2026

Question:

Hi. I Currently have a Blue Ox flat tow bar model BX7420 AVAIL on my RV. We are changing out our tow vehicle to a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Which base place and wire harness would be best for this vehicle and mate up to my tow bar?

Hey Mark,

Thanks for your question!

For your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I'd recommend the etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms # e98950. This base plate is compatible with your existing Blue Ox tow bar, so you won't need any additional adapters.

For the wiring, I'd recommend the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267. This kit includes everything needed to install a 6-way connector on the front of your Jeep. It also comes with the coiled umbilical cord that connects your motorhome to the Jeep, and the included diodes protect your vehicle's electrical system by preventing backfeeding between the motorhome and the Jeep.

Congratulations on your new tow vehicle, by the way! If you need help selecting or have any other questions regarding flat tow components, please let me know.

What type of coach are you going to be towing the new Jeep with?

I put these components on my 2021 grand Cherokee and they fit perfectly. It took less than four hours from start to finish including the electronics. I found that this towbar was the right choice. It did take some manipulation in the front grill by grinding out an opening, but it went very quickly and it looks cosmetically very good. I’ve been using this set up now for 2 1/2 years and have never had an issue. I pull it with a blue box and it works as well as I can help for.

We installed this baseplate and wiring harness on our 2021 grand cherokee. The videos from E trailer where very helpful we , watched them before we received the harness and base plate so, when it arrived it was easy to install it took about 3 hours to do the job working at a leasury pace. I hope this is helpful for you. We'll see you down the road soon.

I have this exact setup that was recommended by Christopher from etrailer. I agree with his opinion. The wiring harness is great as it comes with the all of the resistors you need to ensure no back feeding of trailer wire signal into your jeep and risk of potential damage to the internal electronics of the jeep. It also has the ability to provide 12v power from motorhome to the jeep to keep the battery charged as you tow. Works like a charm. Side note, if you have a motorhome with air brakes I highly recommend the Demco Airforce One braking system for your tow vehicle as well.
