Welcome back Andrew! The Swagman Swivel Hitch Extender item # S86SR is not rated to be used with vertical bike racks but the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away item # Y02483 is.

The Yakima BackSwing Swing Away item # Y02483 is a comparable swing away extender that is approved to be used with the Thule ReVert Vertical Bike Rack item # TH83VA. It opens 90° to the passenger side of your vehicle and has a 250 lbs capacity. The 2" receiver has the required front and rear hitch pin clearance needed for the shank on the ReVert as well.

Please note that using any swing away or extender like the BackSwing Swing Away item # Y02483 will reduce your hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50%.

What kind of vehicle do you have?

@DennisE We might not have had it then. That's the only reason I can think that you would've been told to contact Yakima.

I’m am using the Yakima Backswing with the Hollywood Racks Destination e-bike rack. The Backswing tightens down in the receiver and does not wiggle like others that i have had. I love the Hollywood rack because it also tightens down tight in the 2” receiver. There are 3 tire straps on each bike rack and the rack clamps to the frame (not the wheel) so it is very stable with no stress on the bike. I can watch the bike from my review mirror and even at 75 mph it hardly moves. I also really like the light kit that you can get for the destination. I did add an extra cord so the swing away works with it and i can also easily take the rack off. I have been using Yakima products for over 50 years and always migrate towards them because of the quality. The Hollywood Racks is a new company for me. The rack works well. The only thing that is a little difficult is opening up the rack. You have to pull a pin and release two clamps, but that is what make it so stable. Will finish a trip from Missouri to Michigan and back tomorrow. Everything is working great.

I have used the Backswing for a while now with the Yakima On Ramp Rack. Most bikes of mine are about 50 pounds or less other than that one friend who has one about 70 pounds. If E-trailer is saying its rated for what you are carrying I think you should be good. The Backswing has really been nice when I want to use the tailgate area. Opens and closes better than my old Full swing rack. they have definitely improved this. I got it just because I wanted the swing away feature. The clamp to close it into driving position is good and solid and can be adjusted. From learning after time If you remember to flip the U bolt on top after you open it it makes life easier. It also puts the bike rack back a bit farther so need to be aware of that.
