Does Solera Awning Conversion Kit LC434729 Contain Any Internal Parts For The Roller Tube?

Updated 07/06/2026 | Published 06/22/2026

Question:

Does this replacement kit include any internal parts to the existing tube? The customer has a manual awning - Carefree I believe. Looks like you provide new end covers for the drum but nothing else. Can you explain if any additional parts are needed to make the existing drum work with your new arms and power/idler heads? Thanks for any help. 2008 Winnebago Aspect Class C.

Hey Joe, thanks for reaching out. You're correct that the Solera 18V Electric RV Awning Conversion Kit # LC434729 does not include any internal components for the existing roller tube. The kit is designed to reuse your current roller tube and awning fabric, so as long as those parts are still in good condition, the conversion is mostly a matter of replacing the existing manual arm assemblies and end components with the Solera power hardware included in the kit.

The conversion kit includes the powered arm assembly, idler arm assembly, motor, and the replacement end components needed to interface with the existing roller tube, but it does not add any new springs, shafts, or internal roller tube components. That's why Lippert requires the existing roller and fabric to be serviceable before converting. As long as the roller tube is structurally sound and the awning fabric is worth keeping, you will not need any additional parts to make the conversion work.

Is the carefree roller and fabric still in good shape?

Jesse- Thanks for your response and information. The existing roller tube and fabric are still in good shape. I am concerned that since the existing ends of the roller tube includes the lock and release lever for manual operation... this may interfere with the install of the new roller tube end caps. Please advise if this will be an issue. Thanks Joe

@JoeS Hey Joe, honestly I don't think that's going to be an issue. The manual lock and release hardware on the ends of the Carefree roller tube doesn't get reused in the conversion. The Solera motor and end assemblies basically take over that job, so those manual components come off during the installation process and are replaced by the Solera hardware included in the kit.

@JesseM - one last question... I confirmed that my customer has a Dometic Model 811GF17.401S....The roller tube has the aluminum outer cover so I believe it is the 9000 version. The over all length of the awning from center of the arms is 203.5 inches - 17ft. Is this going to strong enough to roll up the awning? Does it have a spring internal to the drum? Thanks for all the help Joe

@JoeS Yes, the # LC434729 conversion kit will work just fine with a 17' Dometic 9000 model awning. The kit will retain the spring inside the current roller tube. The conversion kit replaces the manual support arms with powered arms, but it does not replace the roller assembly or remove the spring-loaded torsion mechanism inside the drum.
