Replacement Chill Cube w/ Heat Pump AC System for a Dometic Duo-Therm

Updated 06/21/2026 | Published 06/18/2026

Question:

I have a duo therm model 59516.603. I’m looking to replace it. I’m looking at the furion chill cube but I’m unsure which unit will work. My current setup has an interior air box and ducts with an analog thermostat that runs both the ac unit and the furnace.

Welcome back Gary and thanks for all the information! To replace your Dometic Duo-Therm 59516.603, I recommend the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV AC w/ Heat Pump & Air Distribution Box item # FR59TQ in white or item # FR27TQ in black.

There's no way to just replace your AC unit, you'll need to replace all your AC system components. This is due to the EPA changing the regulations on the refrigerant in the AC units at the beginning of 2025. They've been upgraded to R32 and your Dometic Duo-Therm has the now obsolete 410a refrigerant. None of the 410a components are compatible now with the newer systems. You will be able to use your RV's existing wiring to power the AC system and connect to the included thermostat.

The Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube Conditioner System item # FR59TQ in white or item # FR27TQ in black are 18,000 btu systems with a built in heat pump that include an air distribution box that works in a ducted orientation only. These systems have the variable speed compressor that eliminates the voltage surges during startup.

The included thermostat is currently only able to control the AC functions. Furrion is working on a relay and procedure to have it control a furnace. Until that is available the recommendation has been to use the Dometic Digital Thermostat item # DMC84RR to operate your furnace.

What kind of RV do you have and what kind of climates do you typically travel in? I'm just trying to dial in the right system for you. We've got quite a few replacement options and I understand swapping out everything to replace an older AC unit wasn't what you had in mind.

Thank you Jerred, I have a ‘99 class c. We regularly travel through the mountains in the mid Atlantic and north east region for three seasons of the year. I do appreciate the heat pump function it will save using the furnace during those colder fall and spring nights. Since it needs to be completely replaced I am open to other suggestions if you have any. Thanks again!

@GaryM You're welcome! The Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube Conditioner System item # FR59TQ in white or item # FR27TQ in black are the top of the line brand new recommendation as far as AC systems go. The Chill Cube variable compressor technology has been out since the beginning of last year and it's been a game changer. With the addition of the heat pump this past spring, I wouldn't recommend looking at another brand. These systems have a dehumidifier setting and run so quiet; 46 - 60 decibels so you're going to notice an immediate improvement over your Dometic. We do get quite a few people who are caught off-guard by the refrigerant change limiting replacement options but going off of what you need and your excitement about the heat pump, I think these are the best options for you.
