I'm looking to replace the factory Westlake tires on my TAXA Mantis and would like some guidance on alternative tire options. The current tire size is 235/75R16 with a Load Range C (110/105L), which seems to limit the available selections. I'm having trouble finding equivalent Load Range D or E options in the factory size. Would changing to a different size, such as 235/75R16, be a viable option to expand the available tire choices while maintaining proper load capacity and safe towing performance? If so, what tire sizes and load ratings would you recommend for the Mantis? Any recommendations or guidance on suitable replacement tires would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Todd,

Yes, moving from your current 235/75R16 Load Range C tire to a 225/75R16 Load Range E tire is a viable option and is actually one of the better ways to expand your tire choices while gaining additional load capacity. Since the 225/75R16 is slightly smaller in overall diameter than your current tire, clearance is not a concern.

For load range E replacement, I recommend the Goodyear Duratrac tire and wheel assembly, part # LH53MR. It uses an LT225/75R16 Load Range E tire, which offers significantly more load capacity than your current Load Range C tires while providing excellent durability and traction for the type of gravel roads, forest roads, and off pavement travel that many TAXA Mantis owners enjoy.

I know the LT designation can raise questions when you're shopping for trailer tires, but tires like the Duratrac are very popular in the overland and adventure trailer world because of their tough construction, puncture resistance, and aggressive tread design.

The one thing you'll want to verify is your wheel bolt pattern. The LH53MR wheel uses a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern, so compare that to your current wheels to ensure they match. As long as your bolt pattern is the same, this would be an excellent upgrade from the factory Westlake tires if your goal is a stronger, more capable tire with a larger selection of replacement options in the future.
