Hi Jonathan,

The Atwood GC6AA-10E hot water heater was discontinued after Atwood was acquired by Dometic, so there is no direct replacement for your current water heater. If you prefer to stick with a water heater with a tank, I recommend using the Dometic RV Water Heater Propane/Electric w/6 Gallon Tank part # DMC74FR. It is rated for 10,000 btu and produces up to 12 gallons of hot water per hour. The electric heating element supplements propane operation to heat water faster when connected to 120V power as well, to get you more hot water, faster. You'll need a replacement water heater door as well, if you need a black door use the # DMC58FR or if you need a white door, use the # DMC28FR. You'll want to measure your cutout as well to make sure the water heater fits. The # DMC74FR's overall dimensions are 12-3/4" tall x 12-3/4" wide x 19-7/8" deep.

If you want to make the switch to a tankless water heater, I suggest the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater part # FR98SR that provides seemingly endless hot water with 144 gallons of hot water per hour. It is propane powered and only uses gas when the faucet or shower for hot water is turned on. The Vortex system mixes hot and cold water to eliminate temperature fluctuations and reduce overheating the water. It's overall dimensions are 12-5/8" wide x 12-5/8" tall x 19-1/4" deep, and you can use replacement Furrion door part # FR73XD in black or the replacement Furrion door part # FR43FR in white. I've included a review video about the Furrion Tankless Water Heater if you want to learn a bit more about it.

How much hot water do you typically use on a trip out with your camper?

Hay, thanks for the reply. I ended up just getting the tank welded vs spending what probably would have been over $1000 on a replacement. Which is actually ridiculous when you think about - that's what a hot water heater for an entire house costs.

@Jonathan I completely understand. If the tank was able to be repaired safely, welding it was probably the most cost-effective route. Replacement RV water heaters and tanks can definitely be surprisingly expensive compared to residential units, largely because of the lower production volumes and RV-specific designs. I'm glad you were able to get it fixed and back in service without having to make that larger investment. Thanks for letting us know how it worked out!
