Can I Use Brophy Camper Jacks to Lift a Truck Cap Off My Pickup for Storage?  

I bought the jacks to help remove the cap (300lb) from my Ford F-150. To give the jacks the needed clearance, I bolted 8" wide 3/4" plywood to the supporting angle iron on each jack. I've got some pics if you want. My intent is to be able to get the cap on and off by myself. First try, I got it off without breaking anything. The jacks seemed stable with the cap on it. They aren't cheap but will never wear out.

What I do is place 2 or 3 8 ft 2x6 boards between camper and truck box and then it's safely resting on these. Just lower down to bottom while storing and maybe Brace corners with wooden blocks on ground. And remove and store jacks out of weather to maintain their performance.

I bought the jacks to remove a pop up camper off a 1970 ford two wheel drive pick up. The camper over hangs the side of truck bed I a good bit, which the jacks facilitate ok. Even then the legs of the jacks sit right next to the tires, and make it a bit nerve racking. On a camper shell the shell sits very flush with the side of the truck, often narrower the the actual side of the bed. I don’t think the small shelf of the angle iron will accommodate a shell, safely. I made a pulley system years back to remove a shell from my truck. Placed two by fours under the shell, left them sticking out the side a bit, enough to drill eye bolts, nuts and washers. Then made a rope harness too the ceiling of the garage, with a boat crank mounted to the wall. I could lift it just far enough to drive out from under it. Or crank it up to the ceiling, to store it for longer periods of time.
