Thanks for your question, Steve.

Installing the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System #T76FR wouldn’t eliminate the need for a weight distribution system if your setup calls for one, they actually serve two different purposes.

A weight distribution system is designed to manage how the trailer’s tongue weight is applied to your Jeep. When you hook up a trailer, that weight pushes down on the rear of the vehicle, which can cause squat, lift up the front axle, and reduce steering and braking control. A weight distribution system uses spring bars to shift some of that weight back onto the front axle and also onto the trailer axles. This helps keep your Gladiator level, improves steering and braking, and reduces trailer sway.

The Timbren system, on the other hand, is a suspension enhancement. It helps support the rear of the vehicle under load and reduces sag, but it does not redistribute weight or improve steering control the way a weight distribution system does. It’s more about load support than towing stability.

Since your 2021 Jeep Gladiator uses coil springs, the Timbren system can make the unloaded ride feel stiffer. For that reason, a progressive system like the SumoSprings # SS62XR tends to be a better fit. They engage more gradually, so you still get support when towing without as much impact on ride quality when you’re not loaded.

What are you currently experiencing when towing with your 2021 Jeep Gladiator that you want to improve?

Thanks Gwendolyn, I already ordered the Timbren’s and they shipped yesterday. Are there any spacers needs for the Sumo’s as the Jeep has a 2” lift? Any chance you can cover return shipping for the Timbren’s? I will order the Sumo’s once I hear back from you! All the best! Steve

@SteveB The SumoSprings # SS62XR work on Jeeps that have 0-3" of lift so you wouldn't need any sort of spacers for it. Before going in the route of a possible return, how often are you towing, what are you towing, are you currently using a weight distribution with your set up?

@GwendolynY my daughter has a coffee trailer with a weight of around 4000 lbs and has a weight distribution hitch. She operates 3-4 days per week and has had weight issues. It’s a 1990 Pennstyle trailer with 1500lb axles and 8 in wheels. She has blow out many tire and destroyed several rims. We’re replacing and upgrading full suspension to 2000lb axles.

@SteveB I think going with something softer would be a much better option than the Timbrens. I’ll reach out to my customer service team so we can get the return information sent over to you. If you’re going to be replacing the axles, it may also be a good time to upgrade some of the suspension on the trailer. There are a few different ways to go about it, but I’ll cover the two most common routes people use to add support and smooth out the ride. Sticking with the SuperSprings route, we have: - SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-107-40 (for trailers where the springs sit on top of the axle) - SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-106-40 (for trailers where the springs sit under the axle) Another good option would be upgrading the equalizers to something like the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687. Both of these options really help smooth out the ride, especially if your daughter notices things falling over while towing. They also do a great job reducing road shock. I’m not sure how the roads are where you’re at, but we definitely have some questionable ones here in Wentzville, MO.
