Recommended Spare Tire Mount for a Motorhome carrying a 16" 8 Lug Tire

Updated 06/02/2026 | Published 05/26/2026

Question:

2020 Entegra Esteem 26D I am looking for a spare tire bumper mount for the motorhome. It is 16 tire with 8 lugnuts. The motorhome bumper has had added support or welding to accommodate extra weight. It looks like this model as well as Roadmaster hitch mount will work. Any other recommendations?

Appreciate you reaching out Jack and thanks for the details!

I would recommend the Roadmaster Hitch Spare Tire Mount # RM-195225 because it transfers the tire load into the hitch and chassis rather than the bumper. It is specifically for motorhomes and supports large RV wheels. It also has a 2" receiver opening so you still have the ability to tow or use a hitch accessory.

The Brophy Rigid Mount Spare Tire Mount # BR56VR is a good option if you don't have a hitch on the RV or if someone is looking for a more budget friendly option.

Do you currently tow a vehicle or plan to tow one behind your motorhome?

Thank you for the recommendation! At this time I do not tow. Not sure about later. I do have a bike rack and e-bikes.

@JackH No worries and we appreciate you! The RoadMaster is definitely the way to go if you're using a bike rack. Let me know if you need any recommendations later.

I've had the The Brophy Rigid Mount Spare Tire Mount # BR56VR on my Minnie Winnie 25B for over a year. It works well. I do tow a car.

@Therese Does it hang below the bumper? Did you get more support for bumper?

@JackH this mount is above the bumper. No added support was needed.

I bought the Brophy mount earlier this year to add a second spare tire for my travel trailer. The Brophy seems well made and was easy to install. Wanted a second spare for trip up to Fairbanks on the Alcan. Overall quality as good or better than the OEM spare tire mount. The Brophy I have does not hinge down like the OEM, but I didn't care about this feature. Have towed 1500 miles with the Brophy and no issues. Seems rugged, simple, and effective. Would buy again.

I purchased the Brophy for my T@B 320 trailer. I found it sturdy and stable. My tongue fork is 2”x4” rather than the 4”x4”. I was able to use the included U-bolts by adding spacers. Note if mounted too close to front it can limit turning radius (it could pinch).

The tire mount did not work for me. No matter where I tried to put it, it was in the way of the tow hot hitch when in the upright position, or it was in the way of the tail lights.
