i have a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT. Is this controller a plug and play or will it require direct wiring?

Hi David,
The Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer Brake Controller part # C67PQ is not a plug and play brake controller. The controller comes with a Curt Universal Wiring Adapter part # C51515 that will plug into the harness coming off the brake controller, but the wires will need to be directly spliced into the vehicle's wiring. The universal wiring harness is necessary if your Ford Ranger doesn't have a tow package or if it has a tow package, but the brake controller harness doesn't have a plug.
If your Ford Ranger doesn't have a 4-way flat, you'll need to install one using a wiring harness like the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter w/4-way flat part # C59236 or if your truck or trailer has LED lights, you'll need to use the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter w/4-way flat part # C59496 to convert the vehicle's lighting system to match the trailer's. Then you will need to use the etrailer Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers part # ETBC7 to plug into the 4-way flat harness and run the wiring necessary to install the brake controller and add a 7-way connector. Unfortunately, all of the wiring harnesses for your truck require splicing into the wiring to get the necessary wiring installed.
If you have a factory tow package (7-way plug on the back of the truck), you can use a plug in option like the Curt Echo Wireless Brake controller part # C51180 that will plug straight into the 7-way and is controlled via Bluetooth from an app on your phone.
What are you planning on towing with your Ford Ranger?
