Question:
Hello, I’m looking to flat tow my modified Jeep JK. It has 37” tires. I have blue ox tow bar and patriot brake system. The patriot brake system doesn’t have enough force on the brake pedal to firmly activate the jeeps brakes. Is there another similar system that has a more powerful actuator? Thank you!

Hi Kevin,
Portable braking units typically don't have as much stopping power as a permanent brake system, so I'd recommend switching over to a permanent system to make sure you have enough power to stop your Jeep. If you haven't already, you can attempt to increase the stopping force of your Blue Ox Patriot Braking System part # BLU37TR using the in-coach monitor to see if that helps. Even then, for reliable braking, a permanent system will still carry more power to help stop the momentum from the oversized tires.
If your RV has hydraulic brakes, I'd recommend using the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo for RVs w/Hydraulic Brakes part # DM86VR. It is a proportional system, so it will stop your Jeep at the same times as your motorhome. The Stay-IN-Play Duo part # DM86VR. also has a vacuum-assist function that reactivates the vacuum-assist line even when the vehicle's engine is off, so it brakes easily and helps protect your brake components on your vehicle. You can monitor the system using the included wireless Coachlink monitor that uses lights and sound to alert you when the towed vehicle's brakes are applied based off of the actual brake's activity.
If your motorhome has air brakes, I recommend using the Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/Air Brakes part # SM99243. It is also a proportional braking system that mounts out of sight with the same vacuum-assist integration that uses the vehicle's vacuum-assist line to recreate normal braking as if driving. It comes with an LED indicator light that mounts in the towed vehicle and lights up in real time using the signal from the brakes being applied. Before getting either system, you'll want to confirm that the year, make, and model of your Jeep will work with these braking systems.
What is the year, make, model of your Jeep?
