Is Dexter DX7.5L A-60SXL Surge Brake Actuator Shorter Than Dexter LP-75
Updated 05/15/2026 | Published 05/12/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2025 Xpress boat sitting on a 2025 Back Track trailer with disc brakes. The surge brake actuator that is on it now is the Dexter LP-75. Its about 32inch long. Im looking to try to shorten it up. Im looking at the DX29FR. The tongue is a 3inch x 4inch tube frame. I was told several months ago that the DX29FR would work fine and should shorten it by 15inch or so. Just double checking before I purchase. Many Thanks: Danny

Hey Danny, welcome back! The Dexter Surge Brake Actuator # DX29FR is 19" long so making it 13" shorter than your LP-75. This will shorten it up quite a bit. The # DX29FR has the same 7,500 lb capacity, fits a 3" x 4" tongue, and is designed for disc brakes so you're all set there. I believe the mounting pattern is a little different so you might have to drill new holes, check out the attached photo.
Where are you headed with your boat once you get the actuator replaced?

I added the DX29FR to my xpress 19 pro. I did not have brakes on my backtrack trailer. It works great. But it did not come with instructions. You will have to you tube it. Have you thought about a break away tongue set up instead?
