Hello again Gary,

Great question.

Based on your 2024 Chevy 2500 with the 8' bed and factory puck system, along with your Cougar 23MLE and Road Armor pivoting pin box, the best option I recommend is the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3710.

This hitch is designed to drop directly into your factory puck system with no adapters needed. The dual jaw design provides a very secure connection around the king pin, which helps reduce chucking and gives you a smoother, quieter ride.

Since your Road Armor pin box already provides cushioning and movement, pairing it with the B&W Companion gives you a more stable and controlled towing experience without adding unnecessary extra pivot points. With your long bed truck, you will not need a slider hitch, so this fixed option keeps things simple and strong.

When it comes to 5th wheel hitches, B&W is widely considered one of the best in the industry. They build a very high quality product, and if you ever have any issues, B&W is known for taking care of their customers with excellent support.

I promise, if you go with B&W you will be a happy camper!

Have you owned a 5th wheel hitch before, if so, which one?

I am using the Curt crossing hitch now, My 5th wheel rides a little high in the front I am looking for a hitch that would lower my 5th wheel somewhat to make it towing more level, don't know if this hitch would help any

@GaryL That makes sense, and you are definitely looking in the right direction trying to get the trailer to sit level. A different hitch can help a little, but it usually only changes the height by about 1 inch or so. Your Curt CrossWing already has a height range of about 16-3/8" to 20-3/8", so switching hitches alone typically will not be a huge drop. If you are using an adapter (rails) in the puck system, that can also add some extra height. The B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3710 does sit a bit more “true” in the puck system and gives you a more solid connection, especially with your Road Armor pin box, so it can help slightly and will improve overall ride quality. That said, the main way to bring the front of your trailer down is by adjusting the pin box. Most pin boxes have multiple bolt holes, and moving it up (which lowers the front of the trailer) can usually gain you about 1 to 2 inches, which makes the biggest difference. Best setup will be: -Hitch set to its lowest height -Pin box adjusted up if needed That combination should get your Cougar sitting much closer to level and give you a more stable, confident towing experience. Do you happen to know if your pin box is already set at the highest position?

@GaryL Hi Gary, Dave here! I am a previous etrailer customer who has a 2025 Chevy Silverado High Country. I don't claim to know a lot about this stuff but can at least tell you what I have for my setup that seems to have worked just fine for me for the past year. I did the same as you, and asked a lot of questions until I felt comfortable enough to go ahead and buy what I needed. I tow a 2022 Grand Design Reflection 30' and for my setup I went with the BWRVK3710 and because my trailer came with the Curt Turning Point I added the wedge (016118066029). This setup has worked fine and the trailer sits pretty level, maybe slightly higher in the front, but nothing real noticeable and certainly not in the towing. I hope you find this useful and welcome any questions, if you need more info. Best of luck!

Good morning: I highly recommend the B&W Companion hitch with the puck system. First, the materials of construction are all steel with a super nice protective finish on this hitch. If you are able to lift about 75-80 pounds yourself, it is a very easy install. If you need a helper, well then even easier! The four locking latches are a perfect fit into the GMC factory puck system. A very simple adjustment and you have placed the base properly and it is locked securely into place. Once you have the top installed, you will find the hitching and unhitching process is very smooth and easy! Ed

@EdW Thanks for backing up the recommendations Ed! B&W has great products, we aren't even allowed to sell replacement parts for their hitches because they will take care of you for life. What really sold me on this company was the amazing things they do for their community as well. If you have a minute, please take time to watch this video, it will make you even more proud to have a B&W hitch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SiqJnuQGRY&t=92s

I've been using a 2024 Chev 2500HD with this same setup on a 2024 Jayco Eagle (5th wheel obviously) and it is great. Here's what I like: 1) I can set my Hitch Height (trailer control panel), back-up and using the camera on the truck to get lined up. EZ-PZ. My old truck and trailer took several attempts. I can also use my iPhone while sitting in the truck to raise or lower the trailer to ensure I don't damage my lube plate. 2) Turn 4 handles and it all comes out. If you don't have a overhead wench like I do, you can take it out in pieces. I'm 74 yrs old so I'm not as strong or limber as I used to be. Putting it in and out is, again EZ-PZ. Drop it onto a moving dolly, set it in a corner of the garage and I'm done. I sure do like the puck system. 3) I thought there would be clearance issues around the cab when I first bought it, but the combination of Eagle beveled nose design and hitch is no problem. No need for a sliding mechanism. No need for a rotating hitch on the trailer. 4) The ride is better than the old system, not sure why. Could be the truck, could be the trailer, not sure how much the hitch has to do with that.

@Jeff Thanks for the response, I really appreciate you sharing your experience. That setup sounds dialed in. The remote height adjustment with the camera makes lining up so much easier, and being able to fine tune from your phone to protect the lube plate is a great touch. Good point on the puck system too. Easy removal is a big win, especially being able to break it down and roll it out of the way. Also helpful to hear you have no clearance issues. That’s a common concern, so real world feedback like that goes a long way. Really appreciate you taking the time to share

I have the B&W companion in my 2024 Chevy 3500 and I tow a Cougar 23mls. This hitch is so easy to use and has a very small footprint in the bed. Each piece weighs less than 50 pounds and has handles at shoulder width making it easy to handle. Locking it in is a breeze, just drop it in, turn the handle and insert the safety pins. I would definitely recommend this hitch.
