Question:

Re: TFF350SD4B vs. TFF350SD4. Hi, Is one of these better than the other for my 2001 Ford -350s [Super Duty 4WD regular cab and chassis] front end sag with use of our Snow Bear plow? The installation instructions for the former says that the shock tower needs to be de-installed to allow the Timbren product to be installed, but the latter doesnt have a link for instructions, but the QandA says that it doesnt require shock removal- is that true? If so, that would solve a major installation headache. Thanks in advance

Hey Thomas. I wouldn't say ones better than the other and they have identical installation processes as far as removing the shock tower assembly. It has to come off for both on your truck.

The main differences between the Timbren item # TFF350SD4 and the item # TFF350SD4B is a higher capacity, and one is designed for the 2001 Ford F-350's that have the Ford Snow Plow Prep Pkg.

The Timbren item # TFF350SD4 has a 3,000 lbs capacity and is what you'll need if your F-350 does not have the Ford Snow Plow Prep Pkg. I attached a screenshot below of the instructions for this kit.

The Timbren item # TFF350SD4B has a 3,600 lbs capacity and is the correct one if your F-350 has the Ford Snow Plow Prep Pkg.

Does your F-350 have the snow plow package? The newer ones come with a higher amp alternator, extra wiring, and heavy duty front springs.

Hi Jerred, No, we don't have the Ford Plow Prep set-up. The Snow Bear plow is a consumer-grade one, but over the years, we have beefed it up while repairing and modding it to make it more serviceable, so it's a lot more robust than OEM, and as a result, it's also a bunch heavier. Thus, the desire for additional spring support. My concern is that given the truck's history of 25 years of driving through salty upstate winters since it was assembled, the shock tower removal may be difficult, if not impossible, without potentially making it unrepairable. Thanks again, Thomas

@Thomas You're welcome! That makes complete sense! Check out the SumoSprings Solo item # SSF-103-47. They have a lower 1,500 lbs capacity but they only require removing the bump stop perch. They do not require removal of the shock tower assembly. The SumoSprings Solo item # SSF-103-47 are going to upgrade your factory bump stops to provide more support when the weight of your plow is on the front end.
