Will the 1.5k etrailer Boat Trailer Jack w/ 2 Wheels Be Strong Enough for a Small Camper?

Updated 04/30/2026 | Published 04/16/2026

Question:

Hi, we have a small camper trailer a utility trailer with a wooden box similar to a tear, with a rooftop tent on top for 2 adults and 2 kids. We have a similar trailer jack, however in that one the cranking mechanism broke. When we camp, we just let the trailer sit on the trailer jack and the tires, we dont have any other support. Do you think the lift strength of this trailer jack is enough? Does lift strength mean that this is the maximum weight that it supports just on the jack, or is that number for the entire trailer? Thanks

Hey Christian welcome back! The etrailer Boat Trailer Jack w/ 2 Wheels item # MJ-1500B-DWL is definitely going to be strong enough for your camper. The 1,500 lbs capacity is for the tongue weight. Tongue weight is typically 10% of your trailer's total weight so this jack will work great.

What kind of trailer do you have and what kind of ground do you typically set up camp on?

Hi Jerred, we have a utility trailer with a wooden box on it, with a roof top tent on top. I think it's rated with a dry weight of about 1500 pounds. Our current (broken) jack is mounted on two rails with holes in them, looking similar to the one in the picture of the jack you are offering. However, our rails are already welded to the trailer tongue, so I was wondering if we can re-use them for a new jack. What information would you need in order to check that? Thank you and best regards Christian

@Christian You're welcome and thanks for the information! Capacity wise the item # MJ-1500B-DWL will definitely be sufficient to say the least. If you could send me a picture of the bracket on your trailer's tongue directly to the email address you receive this response from I would be happy to take a look at it. Also if your bracket has mounting holes on it for bolts, the spacing between the bolts would also be helpful.

@JerredH Hi! I sent a couple photos with a measure in them. Did you receive those and are they usable for figuring this out?

@Christian I sure did! They ended up in my spam folder so apologies for the delay. Your bracket dimensions and the ones on the item # MJ-1500B-DWL do not line up. They're the same width apart but the bolt hole spacing vertically is different. There's a diagram of the included mounting bracket towards the bottom of the item # MJ-1500B-DWL product page that shows the mounting hole spacing. I can't attach it here.

I have this jack on my boat trailer. My boat is a 21ft Rinker. Jack works great! Also like having the double wheels for extra stability.
