Hi Kevin!

You can definitely mount your 225/75R16 tire with 8-lug wheel on the etrailer Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier # e98ZR. I have included an image below with your same size tire and an 8-lug wheel mounted on the carrier for reference.

The hitch on your 2013 Thor looks a little recessed, but this has you covered for that as well. If you look at the second picture I have included, you can see that there are 2 different pin holes on the shank so you can more the spare tire mount out a little if you need. The included hitch aligner tool also clamps onto the shank so you know exactly how far to slide the shank into your hitch so you don't have to guess ever time, which is nice.

Did you run into a situation where you didn't have a spare or was it overly difficult to get to? I have heard both with RVs these days.

I have a 285/R16, 8 lug wheel mounted on this spare tire carrier. I have the carrier attached to the front of superduty pickup. It works great, but I did do some modifications to it. I added about a 1” spacer between the mount and the wheel to have plenty of clearance for the tire. The bolts provided looked marginal so I swapped those out for longer stainless bolts in the same thread pattern as the wheel lugs on my pickup. Now I can use standard lug nuts as well as a locking lug nut to secure my spare tire.

@Dave Nice! Glad it's working well for you. Gotta ask though, why the front hitch?

I mounted the tire hitch to the front Westin bumper on my F-450. It cleared the grill with no need for a modification. I had a Kingstar Kruzr10 on the flatbed and needed to mount the spare up front because I didn't have room on the back without adding a 48" hitch extension. Drove back and forth across the USA, coast to coast. It worked fine and there were two things I didn't like. First, there was a minor visual obstruction where the tire peaked above the hood. Second, the tire blocked air intake and I believe my engine fan had to work harder to cool the engine going uphill on long steep grades. The mount is slotted so it will accept a wide variety of wheel/rim sizes. It was a less expensive but not an ideal solution for long trips.

@Paul A shorter tube would likely cover the visibility issue and I will mention that to our product development team. Would be easier to put the wheel on it as well, so two birds with one stone kind of things are definitely a good thing! Not sure we can do anything about the air flow though. I can see that being a problem having a wheel mounted in front of the radiator though.
