Question:

Hi, I am looking to build a brake package for my 2022 tandem axle Road King boat trailer. 14 wheels, 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, has existing Dexter Vortex hubs. Was looking for a slip on solution, disc brakes with surge actuators. I would appreciate your help with product ion

Hey David! For a disc brake conversion I recommend the DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit # DE42FR. These are designed to fit a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and are rated for 3,500 lb axles. Make sure this matches your axle capacity. They are also compatible with your Dexter Vortex hubs. This is a pair of brakes so you will need a quantity of two with tandem axles.

For a surge brake actuator I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Electric Lockout # DM62VR. You will also need the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle - 18' # 18TA-BLKIT.

Where are you headed once you upgrade the brakes on your boat trailer?

Robin, This looks like it will be exactly what I am looking for. I just was not sure if that rotor assembly would work for my Vortex hubs. I appreciate your help with a solution to my installation needs. Dave

Hey David, I just wanted to respond to you as E-tailer said you had asked a question about the brakes I had gotten for my trailer. I have a 2010 Sea Hunt Ultra 21 ft with a 150hp 4 stoke Yamaha on a tandem axle aluminum trailer. I did a complete overhaul to my trailer replacing the old spring axles with torsion axles, new hubs, new disc brake rotors, new calipers, the new brake line kit and the new surge coupler. The same ones you're looking at. I also replaced the galvanized crossmembers with 3 x 3 aluminum and all stainless hardware. This was done in late May early June of 2025. I then took the boat from Riegelwood, NC to Key West, FL for a week of fishing and back home again during July 4th week. Trailer did great and the new brakes and coupler worked seamlessly. Since I've had no issues and the quality of their products is superb. Hopefully this helps. If you have other questions just shoot me an email. Happy Fishing, Travis Capps Fish Whisperer
