Updated 03/03/2026 | Published 02/26/2026 >
Question:
I think I found the hitch I will need for my 2025 Subaru Forester. Ill be using it to mount a platform for my dog. Its a Heininger Pet step. I need to see if the platform will tuck under the bumper and not be too low to the ground.

Hi Diane! I don't have any measurements for that pet step but I can give you the measurements from the etrailer # e83ZR so you can figure out where the step will sit on your 2025 Forester. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is 3-1/4". The distance from the ground to the top inside of the receiver tube is 14-1/2".
What kind of outings do you and your dog enjoy?

Hitch was easy to install. I have used it to haul bikes ( 4 bike carrier ), and to haul my camper , boat, and utility trailer. Plenty of ground clearance under the reciever. I don't think you will have any problems. It is sturdy and non obtrusive. Excellent product.

I've installed three of these hitches (2 " receiver tube) - 2 on 2019 Foresters, 1 on 2024 Forester. They all work and fit as advertised. On all the Foresters, I found I had to enlarge one hole on each side of the frame in order to fit the flat plates and bolts into the frame. It also helps to have a floor jack or additional person hold the hitch up in position (it's heavy) while attaching to the car frame. I've used a luggage carrier with plenty of ground clearance.

It's on my gf's car,(I can't measure it currently) the top of the square tube sits about an inch below the rear valance, she has the 2" receiver, we use tray style bike racks, (bike tires sit on a tray), one-up and a Kuat NV, it holds two bikes, it's about 3 feet out the back, and never have had any issues with it touching. The Kuat is the lowest, it has a tension knob straight out the back, level with the receiver hitch. From all the hitches I come across, it is pretty much the same level as other brands. Unless the carrier states you need a raised hitch, then I would assume it's compatible with a standard hitch. Unless you are off-roading or have a really steep driveway or dip between your driveway and the street, I would think you would be ok. It appears that it swings underneath for more clearance, you should be ok.
