Does Hydrastar Actuator Run All The Time When Breakaway Pin is Pulled

Updated 02/23/2026 | Published 02/14/2026

Question:

I just I stalled the hydra star unit on my double axel boat trailer with disc brakes. One question I have which has been asked before I believe is , does the pump run continuously after the breakaway pin is pulled even after reaching full pressure? The other question is can you reverse bleed the system? Are there any valves in the system that will prevent the brake fluid from traveling from the calipers to the reservoir? Thank you, Dan

Hey Daniel, yes the Hydrastar actuator part # HS381-8067 that you referenced would run continuously once the pin of the breakaway has been pulled. This is why a battery is part of the breakaway system as it needs that to power the system. Also, yes the system can be reverse bled if needed. Do you have a surge brake setup currently?

I did have a surge break system but I removed it and installed the Hydrastar with disc brakes . I replaced the rusted out drum brakes as I frequently launch the boat in salt water. . I’m excited to try this new system. Thanks for all your help at E trailer.
